Another Peachtree City resident has announced he will seek a seat on the City Council.

Robert Walsh, a resident of the Planterra Ridge subdivision, said in a letter to The Citizen that he will seek the Post 3 seat currently held by Steve Boone. Boone has not yet indicated whether he would seek re-election.

In the letter Walsh thanks Boone for his service but claimed that much of what Boone has supported “has resulted in an unacceptable tradeoff for the quality of life that has made our city so special.”

“Mr. Boone voted in favor of abandoning Line Creek Drive so that Capital City Development could build a larger retail center than otherwise would be possible;  I would have voted against this,” Walsh said. “This vote led to the request for yet another traffic light on Hwy 54. Mr. Boone voted in favor of requesting this light (graded “F” by the DOT for traffic improvement);  I would have voted against it.”

Walsh said he does not support a plan to build 80 homes and an event center in the city’s industrial park on land near Falcon Field Airport. He said it is “counter to our land use plan.”

Walsh said he supports the city’s community center, tennis center, BMX track, amphitheater and golf cart paths.

“These will require rigorous stewardship of our tax dollars, and support for businesses that add to our community,” Walsh said.

Walsh added that he supports attracting businesses to vacant retail spaces and industrial facilities instead of “supporting more rezoning to push for construction that alters the special character of Peachtree City.”

Walsh served six years in the Army and has worked for Milliken&Co. in LaGrange since 1981 where he is currently market manager for automotive airbags.

Looks like you are on the right track with the few positions you took and even with that little bit of information you are a better choice than Boone who always seems to vote with Logsdon.

Now lets see you try for some enthusiasm for the job and some specific creative ideas - especially attracting businesses to PTC during a recession. Tall order, but the recession is only about half over, so we need to get used to operating in that environment. Do that and you'll win by a landslide. There's no danger of Scott Bradshaw appearing at the last minute and there's certainly no danger of Boone mounting a credible campaign.

Don't forget the enthusiasm. Good luck.
