A Covington man was arrested at Piedmont Fayette Hospital in the early morning hours May 9 after displaying erratic behavior in the emergency room area.

Phil Paul Mitchell, 30, was charged with disorderly conduct in the early morning incident, according to Fayetteville Police spokesman Steve Crawshaw.

Crawshaw said the incident began after Mitchell arrived at the emergency room with his girlfriend at approximately 11:45 p.m. While she was being checked by hospital staff, Mitchell at approximately 2:25 a.m. went into an area of the emergency room and appeared to be attempting to access a computer that contained patient information, Crawshaw said.

Being told by hospital staff to leave the area, Mitchell then went from room to room in the emergency treatment area taking various medical supplies while being vocal and upsetting people, Crawshaw said.

Mitchell then left the treatment room area and went to the emergency room waiting area where he began smoking and continued being loud and boisterous and making people uncomfortable, said Crawshaw.

Mitchell then went to the fountain in the lobby where he climbed in and began collecting coins, Crawshaw said. He climbed out of the fountain, went into a restroom and threw the coins in the trash, said Crawshaw. Mitchell was reported to be erratic and uncontrollable as hospital staff called police, according to police reports.

Mitchell was arrested at approximately 3:05 a.m. on charges of disorderly conduct, Crawshaw said.

I have thought about doing the same thing, but I would not have thrown the coins in the garbage. I would have paid off some of the illegal immigrants so my girlfriend could go before them.
