Monopoly tournament

The first Peachtree City Monopoly tournament was held last Saturday at the Towne Club on Crosstown Rd. in Peachtree City.

Darren Siegerdt became the wealthiest player through buying, renting and selling property in the popular board game to win the $100 first prize. Micah Myerscough came in second winning $50 with Jim Coe and Mitch Furtner coming in third and forth winning $25 each.

Darren and Micah used the tried and true strategy of buying houses as soon as they could and then not converting them into hotels in order to keep Jim and Mitch from being able to improve their properties.

Coincidentally, both the oldest and youngest contestants made it to the final table. Jim, the oldest contestant at 84 said the last time he played Monopoly was in the 1930’s. Mitch, the youngest player gained a lot of experience even though he was forced into bankruptcy in the final round.

All four players successfully advanced from a first round of 10 tables to play in the semi final round of 16 players. They each won their semifinal match to advance to the final table.

The final table was played on a Collector’s Edition boardwhich included all the trimmings. Everyone had a great time and organizers of the tournament were extremely happy to hear everyone say they would play again next year.

The Towne Club hosted the tournament at no cost and provided coffee, drinks and breakfast treats for all the contestants.

Local stores, Marble Slab Ice Cream and Brewster’s Ice Cream provided coupons for every contestant.

Organizers are looking forward to doing it again next year with an undoubtedly larger crowd.

Volunteers and businesses interested in supporting next year’s tournament are encouraged to email PTCMonopoly.yahoo.com.

a waste of time to me. That much Monopoly with such a measly prize? Just doesn't seem worth it. Heck, that collector's edition that was played on cost almost $100 by itself.

Hey, get a grip. It's just for fun. The prizes were just a bonus.
What's the motivation here trying to tear down a good time for everyone else?
