Sooie! Bypass by any other name ...Tue, 05/05/2009 - 3:04pm

A pig by any other name remains the same. The Fayette County commissioners must have hired a public relations firm. For the last 24 years, our answer to the supposed traffic problems in Fayetteville has been called the West Fayetteville Bypass. However, now that our officials have received so much heat regarding the lack of documented need for the bypass, they have decided to dress it up a little and call it a parkway. Well, folks, you can put as much lipstick, perfume and finery on a pig as you like, but it will still smell like a pig. Our commissioners and road engineers have finally decided on a route for this glorified piece of pavement, and I am horrified to say they are trying to bulldoze family homes. We have an illustration for the route, and despite what Chairman Jack Smith said in an interview conducted just a few weeks ago, there are major land developers owning hundreds of acres along both sides of his parkway. And he seems to think or tries to persuade the citizens that those developers aren’t going to build whatever they decide to build. Ha, ha, ha. The last transportation SPLOST put on a ballot was presented under the disguise of “road purposes.” The voters were misled. The West Fayetteville Bypass/Parkway Coalition members will do all we can to assure that won’t happen again. Look out, folks; our commissioners are talking about extending the transportation SPLOST. Please vote NO because your home just might be the next one in line for the county bulldozers. Ginga Smithfield Fayetteville, Ga. login to post comments |
