PTC to allow extra 2 hours Saturday nights to belly up to the bar?Tue, 04/14/2009 - 4:04pm
By: John Munford
{NOTE: This article has been corrected to show that the proposal would only affect bar closing times on Saturday night/Sunday morning; the city does not have closing hours for any other day of the week for local bars) Peachtree City staff is proposing a plan that would allow bar patrons to live it up until 2 a.m. Sunday morning instead of midnight Saturday. In return, bars will be required to install a video surveillance system and vacate all customers by 2:30 a.m., according to a memo on the proposal circulated to the City Council. The cut-off time would change from midnight to 2 a.m. on Saturdays only and add a requirement that customers be out of the bar by 2:30 a.m. To qualify, bar owners would have to pony up for a special license and pay an annual $500 fee, the memo said. Those bars would also be required to install video surveillance equipment of the main customer and employee entrances and the parking area immediately adjacent to the establishment, according to the staff suggestion. The issue will be discussed at Thursday night’s City Council meeting, which convenes at City Hall at 7 p.m. In addition to the fees, the city would also see additional sales tax and mixed drink tax revenue from the proposal, the memo said. Local watering holes have said the extra hours are needed to compete with the later hours employed in neighboring areas such as Senoia, the memo indicated. login to post comments |
