TEA time Wednesday at noon

Tue, 04/14/2009 - 3:56pm
By: The Citizen

It is TEA (Taxed Enough Already) time Wednesday at noon in Peachtree City and Newnan. Public TEA party rallies will be held at the city halls in both municipalities.

Local leaders are Cindy Fallon in Peachtree City and Chip Coursey in Newnan. They are part of a grassroots movement opposing higher levels of taxation.

Neither Fallon nor Coursey have experience in putting together organized events like the rallies expected in both cities. Both said they are playing the events by ear. And both last week said they decided to take on the events as regular citizens because it was the right thing to do.

City Hall in Peachtree City is located at 151 Willowbend Road.

Newnan City Hall is located at 25 LaGrange Street.

Of course one has to love the sweet hypocrisy and irony of those decrying government taxation and spending while standing on property purchased, owned, maintained and operated by government funds. Still, it's a good way to waste an otherwise productive workday so more power to 'em.

You are aware of where Govt funds come from, correct? I still say VOTING is a better use of your time, but it's nice to know you don't mind these folks getting together on land they maintain, purchase, etc. with THEIR funds. Smiling

After the excessive spending in the first 100 days by BOTH parties, we should all be outraged.

Yes indeed, but there are those who will say you do not have the right to speak out. Those for example who are still suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome will try to make you believe that this unprecedented plundering and wasteful spending is somehow supposed to be tolerated because in their opinion ... "it has happened before and so you do not have the right to protest!" Hogwash.

Such flawed philosophy is about as rational as saying that because you did not have a security system in place the first time you were robbed you do not have the right (or ability) to install a camera or a deterrent that will stop the plundering of YOUR hard earned money.

A completely asinine and irrational argument .... try telling them this this when you are told "... but, but, but it happened before!": "I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it any longer!"

You have the absolute right to SAY you have had enough, you have the right to FEEL that way, and I encourage you to make YOUR voice heard.

If however you are one of the zombies still sleeping through the nation's unprecedented accelerated transition to socialism then just continue to chant for your messiah and avoid the truth.

On the other hand, if you are one of us who are truly fed up with the massive government spending by all of the swine swaddling scumbags (regardless of party affiliation or claims of being an agent of change) then by all means speak out and tell these professional politicians that if they vote for these massive spending bills and bailout bonanzas and if they continue to ignore the will of the hard working tax-payers for the aggrandizement of their "public service" careers and the padding of their re-election coffers then we will indeed vote them out of office and reverse this asinine power grab at the expense of our liberty, our prosperity and market capitalism.

Understand me clearly those attempting to make a "party" issue out of this: Just because Bush under both a Republican as well as a Democratic Congress spent like a drunken sailor doesn't make it right, or give license, for Obama and this congress to continue the irresponsible massive power grab and ridiculously heavy taxation we are having to continue to burden.

As for me, I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore. I don't give a rat's patootie what your 'party affiliation' is..... as far as I am concerned the 'Party' is OVER.

For your liberty - and the healing of the dis-ease called 'world economy' what do you suggest these professional politicians do? What is the alternative 'plan' to what is being done now? Do you have a better answer? Do you, who are so against what is being done now, have an answer that will heal this mess of an economy that the world is in now? SPEAK UP!!

Although it is NOT my reponsibility nor is it my fulltime job to determine how best to control waste in spending and an out of control federal government I will help since you appear to be so lost or do not see what so many of us can so clearly see.

For starters, don't appoint people to your cabinet that either (pick one)

A.)intentionally cheat on their taxes and then lie about it or
B.) are too stupid to run a turbo-tax program even though they expect you to be able to do it correctly or suffer grave consequences

and then put them in charge of the US treasury and the IRS.

For starters, read EVERY bill you sign BEFORE you sign it. Don't approve bills that you have not even read.

For starters, don't sign any budget/bill that has somewhere between 8,900 and 9,000 earmarks in it.

For starters, don't support bills/budgets that are not pay as you go and that will require that our children and grandchildren pay the interest on for years to come.

For starters, don't pass budgets that will triple or quadruple the national debt or that have not been properly vetted and are free of pork projects.

For starters, don't allow the federal government (in all of it's grandeur and inefficiency) to turn all health care in to the fiasco that is the VA health care system.

For starters, don't let the President of the United States determine who can and who cannot run publicly traded fortune 500 companies.

And, for starters require term limits, make every politician polygraph and drug test annually, require that congress utilize the same retirement system we do (either their own 401k or 403b or one like the other civil service employees utilize) and make them pay in to social security just as we do. in short, subject them to the exact same laws that we are subject to.

In other words - let's get those who are supposed to be working for us BACK to the business of working for us and do away with the royalty creating, personal aircraft flying, millionaire creating, arrogant and elitist rich kids club that we have turned congress in to.

So there is a modest start for you mom ... but then again if you don't see anything wrong with things the way they are ... what do you care? In that case your question was just rhetorical and I wasted my time trying to help you recognize what you cannot see on your own.

From an article written on June 24, 2008 by Paul Kiesel Attorney. The Subprime Mess and Phil Gramm: An Experiment in Deregulation. Web site, InjuryBoard.com

In 1999, former Senator Phil Gramm (who is, incidentally, Senator John McCain's economic adviser and cochairs his presidential campaign) set out to completely gut the Glass-Steagall Act, and did so successfully, replacing most of its components with the new Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act: allowing commercial banks, investment banks, and insurers to merge (which would have violated antitrust laws under Glass-Steagall). Sen. Gramm was the driving force behind the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, as he had received over $4.6 million from the FIRE sector (Finance, Insurance and Real Estate donations) over the previous decade, and once the Act passed, an influx of "megamergers" took place among banks and insurance and securities companies, as if they had been eagerly awaiting the passage of Gramm's Act. Everything in between Glass-Steagall and Gramm-Leach-Bliley (i.e. Savings and Loan crisis/bust) was, in large part, the incubation period for what would take place over the nine years that would follow the passage of Gramm's Act: an experiment in deregulation.
Shortly after George W. Bush was elected president, Congress and President Clinton were trying to pass a $384 billion omnibus spending bill, and while the debates swirled around the passage of this bill, Senator Phil Gramm clandestinely slipped a 262-page amendment into the omnibus appropriations bill titled: Commodity Futures Modernization Act. It is likely that few senators read this bill, if any. The essence of the act was the deregulation of derivatives trading (financial instruments whose value changes in response to the changes in underlying variables; the main use of derivatives is to reduce risk for one party). The legislation contained a provision -- lobbied for by Enron, a major campaign contributor to Gramm -- that exempted energy trading from regulatory oversight. Basically, it gave way to the Enron debacle and ushered in the new era of unregulated securities. Interestingly enough, Gramm's wife, Wendy, had been part of the Enron board, and her salary and stock income brought in between $900,000 and $1.8 million to the Gramm household, prior to the passage of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act.
In 2003, Gramm left the Senate to join UBS, which had acquired investment house PaineWebber due to his deregulation bill. At UBS, Gramm lobbied Congress, the Fed and the Treasury Department. During Gramm's tenor at UBS and as a lobbyist, Congress passed the Responsible Lending Act, billed as an anti-predatory-lending measure, but was called the "Loan Shark Protection Act" by consumer advocates, as it was designed to preempt stronger state laws against anti-predatory lending. The Fed largely ignored the underlying and growing problems within the subprime mortgage/housing markets, as Bernanke famously acknowledged the housing market in April, 2007 as, "[showing] signs of softening," but said that a "sharp slowdown," is unlikely. Then, according to Mother Jones magazine, Henry Paulson became the Treasury Secretary in July, 2007, when, "In 2005, [at] Goldman [he] securitized $68 billion in residential mortgages and $23 billion in 'other assets' primarily related to CDOs," (Mother Jones, August, 2008). With such self-interest, and a lack of the nation's interest, we can see how this subprime mess was allowed to escalate to such great proportions.
Some justice was served, however, this spring, as UBS became one of the subprime debacle's biggest losers, having to write down $37 billion -- the same amount as their previous four years of profits combined. UBS also made the public aware that two-thirds of its losses were due to reckless investing in collateralized debt obligations (CDOs).

So you see DD I believe the REPUBLICANS can own this one because that snake in the grass Phil Gramm is a big time Texan Republican. Most of this Mess happened on the Clueless W's watch. The Dems don't get a free ride either(they most likely didn't read the bill). Personally I think we should all send a bill to Phil Gramm.

He and Repubs were the only scoundrels, not idiots like Barney Frank who howled long and loud whenever anyone dared question the wisdom of Fannie/Freddie, the "affordable housing" BS, the government and the Fed promoting ad nauseum the ownership concept by making credit/money available at artificially low rates which caused the housing market to skyrocket in fantasy values which in turn made any investment housing-related also skyrocket, etc. etc. Add in massive deficit spending by the Repubs that disavows anything like "pay as you go" and it's a fiasco.

There is a lot of blame to go around that has nothing to do with "not enough regulation." When the government along with the Fed regulates the housing market by guaranteeing easy credit and money, eventually the price has to be paid. When politicians/government decide to get into social engineering by promoting the stupid idea that EVERYONE needs to own their own home and we're going to artificially create a playing field to make it happen, it's not a regulation problem. It's politicians with their hands all over something that takes the free market concept and makes it a managed market. Now some say the government didn't manage it well.....gee, that's a shocker!

The entire game was made possible by a whole slew of Repub/Dem politicians who laid the groundwork to make insane risk-taking and short-term glories possible. The pols(plenty of Dems and Repubs) and some on Wall Street cashed-in huge while everyone else got stuck with a gigantic bill to pay and a wrecked economy that also contributed to dragging down the global economy.

Anytime the government gets into the market and starts minimizing risks that exist for a reason, there will be plenty of folks jump in and take tons of risk. When you turn around and say "That was really dumb, but you're too big to fail, here, have some $$$," there is no lesson learned.

I absolutely agree with you. There is enough blame to spread around to a great many members of both parties, and probably to a majority of members in Congress.

I do think however (and I am not trying to be pedantic here) that assessing blame need not be doled out in equal amounts. If your typical member of Congress gets one "blame point", I'm of the opinion that Rep. Barney Frank should get perhaps 25 "blame points", and Sen. Chris Dodd should be assessed maybe 50 "blame points". Senator Phil Gramm, however, deserves a disproportionate amount of the blame (say, 100 "blame points") as I feel that his work dismantling Glass-Stegall had the most significant adverse impact on this nation's financial infrastructure and the repercussions are still be felt today.

Oh, trust me, I'm not happy with the way things have shaken out. I personally like Barney Frank, I think overall he's done an admirable job in Congress over the years on the financial services subcommittee. His halo has been severely tarnished with some of these questionable calls he's made in the past two years.

Christopher Dodd, sadly, has outlived his usefulness. American troops owe him a debt of gratitude, as he was the first to identify the shameful lack of body armor availability in Iraq. And I'll be honest, I overlooked a lot of Sen. Dodd's shortcomings because of the body armor episode.

The simple fact of the matter, with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, is that Dodd practices "dollar diplomacy", and works tirelessly for financial interests, even when those interests are not to the benefit of the American consumer.

In short: he needs to go.

Do you feel better now? Smiling Where were these suggestions 8 years ago?
When you learn how to make your point without trying to insult (and you don't have the status in my eyes to ever insult me) we'll talk. I think that we are going in the same direction - by monitoring our elected leaders - regardless of their 'labels'. The electorate did that in November - and the Bush supporters and their colleagues lost. That's politics. We can't wait for every four years before we make our voices heard. My questions are never rhetorical - it just seems that some don't want to answer them. Thank you for your attempt. The 'federal government' is what WE allow it to be!! Read your Constitution - we all need to stop acting as if our elected officials are something special. THEY REPRESENT US! We are the government. We don't have to have a revolution as the colonists did. Our government is OURS - not the Brits. Have you checked to see if any of the officials that represent you have placed 'pork' in the Bush stimulus? That is the 'bill' that Obama signed. . .the Bush stimulus. Regarding the publicly traded 500 companies. They've screwed us! No regulation. Someone has to monitor until they begin to operate in the public interest - not to the detriment of the public. Drug tests - are we to deny Congressmen the rights we enjoy as citizens. When was the last time you were tested for drugs? You know - it's late. We disagree - have different viewpoints. A different point of view is not always a 'wrong' point of view. My point and the point of others will not always be seen through your 'view'.

Any other stupid questions? Some jobs actually require it as a condition for employment. As a teacher you should have known that. I recommend we include congress in that group since their decisions control our lives to such a great extent. And by the way mommy, I don't care what your opinion is of me or my 'status' and certainly don't need your assessment to validate my self worth. And as an added reminder "you don't know me" mommy and you wouldn't know me if you were to fly on my plane or buy my products. That's my opinion, I am entitled to it, and you need to get over yourself and get used to hearing it.

I think others posters have done a sufficient job explaining why the rest of your apparently uninformed rantings, including but not limited to those about you being owed/screwed by an automobile (fortune 500) company is asinine. But somehow in your feeble mind the President is the one who can and should determine who runs those companies? That's just laughable and very scary. That's my opinion, I am entitled to it and you need to get over yourself and get used to hearing it.

By the way mommy, in my opinion NO COMPANY is too big to fail and the biggest failure in the US currently is the US government itself and the government run programs we pay DEARLY to keep stumbling along under incompetent leadership, management, and operation. That's my opinion, I am entitled to it and you need to get over yourself and get used to hearing it.

You once again rhetorically ask a me a question: "Where were these ideas 8 years ago?" Are you referring to the outrage that a tax cheat is in charge of taxes or that a spending is at an all time high? You really are fixated on party affiliation and Good 'ole George "W" aren't you? My ides and my suggestions have been steadfast and unchanged for many years mommy, unlike you I do not turn a blind eye to the misappropriations of a President because of the color of his skin or his party affiliation. I can name Hispanics, whites and blacks that I like and dislike politically. Your dear Mr. Bush spent like a drunken sailor and the congress both under Republican leadership and Democratic Leadership and B. Hussein Obama are proving to be even worse. That's my opinion, I am entitled to it and you need to get over yourself and get used to hearing it.

I'm glad you are happy with the way things are going but as for me? I'm mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore. That's my opinion, I am entitled to it and you need to get over yourself and get used to hearing it.

Currently, the democrats control the house, the senate and the white house so they are going to have to answer for the mess they are making and the power grab is the final straw in my opinion and the catalyst for my stance at this time, for free enterprise and fair taxation. That's my opinion, I am entitled to it and you need to get over yourself and get used to hearing it.

Throw the bums out! If Delta wasn't too big for bankruptcy, why is GM? That's my opinion, I am entitled to it and you need to get over yourself, put on your big girl pants, and get used to hearing it because you are going to hear it louder and more often from now until things "Change".

Have a blessed day! Eye-wink

"Regarding the publicly traded 500 companies. They've screwed us! No regulation. Someone has to monitor until they begin to operate in the public interest - not to the detriment of the public."

Publically traded companies are private companies that are held by investors who have bought various shares of company stock. It is a very simple exchange-investors want to have a good investment and the company wants to make a profit. If the company makes bad decisions, then the stockholders can revolt and replace the leadership. If the company makes really bad decisions then its creditors will dry up and the company will go into bankruptcy. And the investors are out of an investment. It is called risk and reward. It is a fairly simple and efficient process, if allowed to work. Where does it say in our constitution that our private companies must operate for the public good? If we require companies to do so, why doesn't the national bureaucracy take over? Then they can establish really effective things such as a 5 year plan, a great leap forward, and quota production. Yes, the proletariat can reign supreme! It has worked so well in other places, it will definitely work just as well here.

The moment that we decide that private companies are too big to fail, is the moment we have taken away the risk and reward mechanism that a private economy must have.

Submitted by Davids mom on Thu, 04/16/2009 - 12:55pm.

When private companies can no longer pay those in the public who work for them - it becomes a public issue. Right? Many persons more informed than I get that concept.

The Bill of Rights and the Constituition don't guarantee us a home or even a job.

We are given the "right" to pursue happiness. With the emphasis on pursue.

That doesn't guarantee us a big pay check or any pay check at all. It doesn't guarantee that we will ever own a home.

When you reward failure all you get is more failure: Newt Gingrich.

Rewarding companies that fail guarantees more of the same. When you reward people who don't pay their mortgage you will get more of the same.

The Wedge's picture
Submitted by The Wedge on Thu, 04/16/2009 - 1:43pm.

That is where you are fundamentally wrong. Where is it enumerated that the Federal Government's job is to keep companies from failing? Where? Because we have decided to let the feds control everything private, we have set up a corrupt system. Does GM get money because of campaign contributions? What about Fannie and Freddie where executives move freely between government and the quasi private company. It is certainly not a public issue that GM is failing.

What is it with this country's obsession with rewarding and enabling failing businesses and individuals while penalizing and crippling those that make responsible choices and who are the ones that are the foundations of our economy. My God for the life of me I cannot figure this out?

What are these people's plans other than beating down the achievers? I'm convinced that their hatred is based upon pure jealousy and resentment because they have not been able to capitalize on the opportunities put forth before them. So these tax and spenders play Robin Hood under the guise of helping the unfortunate when they are really making excuses and trying to validate their pitiful and unsuccessful efforts in becoming successful. These people get off on tearing the producers down in order to justify their refusal to get off their pitiful asses and put forth the effort to become successful.

Come on folks... If I can be as successful as I am with effort, determination and discipline then ANY bonehead can succeed.

But screw it... These dependents and leeches can't be reasoned with. They would have to admit the fact that don't have what it takes to be successful. It's easier to destroy those that make it happen than to admit they are mediocre at best.

Freaking Cheers!

I would say that starts pretty early...in the school system.

I believe it actually starts earlier than that Wildcat. It starts with us parents that refuse to accept the fact that our little 'Johnnys and Susies' may not be quite as smart and capable as they appear in our minds. Therefore we compensate this disappointment by blaming teachers over the years. When the reality is that teachers have had to dumb down the standards so that everyone can fit in and be a so-called winner. Those that excel are held back and those that struggle are falsely enabled and propped up so everyone can be pushed through the system in an equal manner. Hmmmm... sounds a lot like the beginnings of socialism eh?

As far as jaded loser teachers or jaded teacher jerks go... I didn't catch that thread. I will say there are some horrible teachers out there that would be on welfare if they did not possess a teaching certificate. But for the most part the vast majority of our teachers are very capable and caring up to the point that their hands get tied by mandates that require them to process bodies through the system even if it results in the student actually becoming dumbed down.

I'm going to take a wild stab at this and say TS is one of our elected buffoons.

I congratulate you and your successful business. You are a leader that is certainly a role model. Unfortunately - those who do not plan and implement business practices like you do - have had to let go of some of their employees. Their employees do not work for 'government' - they work for private entities. Without work, they are now a 'public issue' unless there are other private businesses that can hire them. In this financial crisis - we have many who are unemployed because their employers were not as wise and frugal as you are. They are not willing dependents or leeches, They are hard workers who had a boss who was not as wise as you. I congratulate you that in this crisis, you have not had to release any of your employees.

No. Many are victims of economic circumtstances that were caused by out elitist leaders in Washington (both flavors), and their blood sucking, elitist, Ivory Tower bankers and brokers along with their lobbyists. These greedy elitist scoundrels are ruining this country and our current president is feeding the flames by fueling them with trillions of dollars of so called stimulus monies under the pretense of saving us little people. And you defend and back his sorry ass because he's a Democrat and even more importantly to you... He's Black. And then you and your leaders deem anyone that doesn't support this farce and the 'black president' as being a Right Wing Extremist that needs to be put on watch list. While the whole time no gives a rip what color the jackass is... just that he is bent on destroying the foundations that have made this country great.

Now take heart.... The Repubicans are with you. Look at what John McCain said today about dumping anyone with faith and anyone who might not support gays from the Republican Party.

Oh... another mistake you made. I laid of 3 people this year. Guess that makes me one of those that "didn't plan and implement business practices'. Yeah blame me and not the gumament that is destroying our small to midsize business while over regulating us and forcing more mandates and burdens down our throats while pumping trillions into corporations that have shifted our jobs and manufacturing base overseas. But none of that matters to you. Your just happy to see Obama hug, bow and kiss the Saudi's, Islamofacists, Chavez, Castro and Iran's Amaterrorist.

we have many who are unemployed because their employers were not as wise and frugal as you are.

How dare you. I'm just damned lucky because my industry sector has held up. I know dozens of businessmen around the state, nation and right here in our own backyard that are victims of an economy that is being destroyed by our increasingly oppressive and corrupt government. And you blame those that have provide these jobs and have created businesses that drive the hearbeat of our country. I've bit my tongue long enough..... so I'll spit it out. You and an increasingly growing segment of our population are ignorant of what drives and creates success for all people. Again.. that stems from your jealousy of not being one of those that have stuck it all out on the line and created these businesses and jobs while benefiting personally. You dub us greedy and feel obligated and justified in taking us down by utilizing the power of the government to tax us and mandate us in an effort to bring us down to your level. Unknowingly destroying the very foundations that support your sorry butts.

They are not willing dependents or leeches, They are hard workers who had a boss who was not as wise as you.

Bull Ca Ca... I am not talking about hard workers that produce. I'm talking about the deadbeats that drag this economy down being the leeches and blood suckers they are. Your so-called disadvantaged that have never made an honest effort to be anymore than than the street thugs or trailer trash that they are. They are the obese lard butts that siphon off the wealth of this country and it's producers. I see those fat butted gumament dependents in the stores every day.... to danged lazy to even pick up their feet as they shuffle around the store with the money they suck off of me, my peers, my employees, and the unemployed producers in this country. And not all the unemployed are producers... 2 of my 3 my layoffs were whining and unproductive leeches on my payroll. Obama supporter thinks I. Eye-wink

He's Black. And then you and your leaders deem anyone that doesn't support this farce and the 'black president' as being a Right Wing Extremist that needs to be put on watch list. While the whole time no gives a rip what color the jackass is... just that he is bent on destroying the foundations that have made this country great.

I believe that our current president is an American - and has as much right to make a mistake as a 'white' guy. Contrary to your belief - I did not vote for our current President, along with 60%+, of the rest of America because he was 'black' - but because I just couldn't take anymore of the inept cronyism of the 'other' guys administration. America gave the 'other' American 8 years. The Republicans/conservative/just say no crowd hasn't even given this 'other' American 100 days! And I realize that not all Republicans/Conservatives are part of the 'just say no' crowd. It is apparent that anger trumps viewpoint. I was accused once of being rude to those who do not hold my viewpoint. I've tried hard not to allow 'anger' to belittle another's point of view. It has been established that 'we' (David’s Mom and Git) do not agree. Sorry you thought I was being patronizing. I feel you have spoken and posted honestly. . . and that was the intent of the demeanor of my post.

I don’t feel you are a ‘right-wing extremist’ – but I feel they are catering to your anger and point of view.. . and using that anger to justify their extreme views.

You could have gotten back in my face somewhat justifiably. And yes I am angry. But I can assure you it isn't because anyone is catering to my anger. I study, research, and render my own independent judgement of the issues and goings-on taking place in our country. And I can assure you I didn't even consider attending one the Tea Party stunts. Not that I don't agree with the people.... just have issues with the hypocrytical GOP leaders who are using it for face time. Much like Democrats do trotting out the working class and the poor by acting like they give a rats rump over them.

As for the rest of what I said... I'll dub you as the 'exception to the rule' on the color of the ballot lever you pulled. Eye-wink

But I am a Right-Wing Extremist. Look at the blog I posted earlier in the day and you will see by this administration's descriptions that I do indeed fit the description of a RWE.

You're being heard. To STOPspending is not enough in this crisis. Budgets without numbers is not sufficient. No answers to what to do with the jobless if no money is allotted to create jobs is not an answer. Stopping 'welfare' (food stamps, children’s health care, etc.) is not an answer. Anger without the leadership to lead us out of this MESS is not the answer. Megan McCain hit a nerve. The current malcontents are the Republicans/conservatives of the past - offering no plan for the future. . .except reminding us that they feel there will be no money for future generations. Of course there are malcontents among all Americans about our current situation. We elected those who gave us some hope. We're giving those leaders more than 90 days to try to turn this thing around. Our concerns today are more than the issues of 'abortion', gay marriage; etc. Concerns today center around keeping our homes, putting food on the table for the rest of the month, getting a job! Our leaders are trying to deal with those issues. Revolution, secession - without a job, without food, doesn't do much for the future of our grandchildren.

Definition of ‘extremist’
* a person who holds extreme views
* (use of opinions and actions) far beyond the norm; "extremist political views"; "radical opinions on education"; "an ultra conservative"
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

* Extremism is a term used to describe the actions or ideologies of individuals or groups outside the perceived political center of a society; or ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extremist

Most posters on this blog are not considered extremists by definition. We’re all talking about issues that are perceived more center than extreme: respect for country; work/jobs; funds to feed and provide shelter for family; opportunity to provide a safe and healthy environment for our family; etc. Some, before the election, felt that their position was the position that the majority of the country agreed with. They now know that they are in the minority. Yet – just because there are different opinions on how to achieve restoring our country economically – does not mean that those who post here are ‘extremists’ in their views. Some appear to be consumed with dislike (hate) for the current administration; some appeared to be consumed with dislike for the previous administration. Those, in my opinion, are in a distinct minority. However – if one wants to be considered an extremist – so be it.

I never, ever step foot in a convenience store. That's what they make credit cards for. So I don't have to stand behind those shuffling welfare cows scratching off lottery tickets. Eye-wink

And you know exactly the point I was making. So go ahead and spin it however you choose.

Yes we have the right to do drugs. We have the right to do ANYTHING we want, as long as we do not hurt anyone else in the process. That is how the founders wanted this nation to be.

As history has shown, when citizens become complacent, tyranny takes root, every time.

You stated "Regarding the publicly traded 500 companies. They've screwed us!"

So, which 500 companies have "screwed us" and how did they manage to do that? (or were you just spewing the last thing you heard at the local NAACP meeting last week?)

I'm answering you here for a reason. Our local blog world has changed, Cy. Has it not? David's mom tries to be as sweet and understanding and even-tempered as she can possibly be. Rock78 mentioned that. What's her reward?

"were you just spewing the last thing you heard at the local NAACP meeting last week?"

Ahh yesss. The people claiming we always turn to race ACTUALLY slipping in racial jabs. Typical stuff these days.

Click on the blog titles and pan back a few pages Cyclist. What do you see?

I imagine you, and possibly Hutch, and other reasonable conservatives feel that people like myself should ignore all of the vitriol? A greater portion? Greet it with flowers and white doves of peace?

I feel absolutely no desire or obligation to contribute in any way to the opposition. The volumes that are posted here, and almost NEVER challenged by even reasonable republicans, need no augmentation from me.

So, Cyclist, this whole game appears to have changed. I really don't see the old me, whatever that is, as a viable option in the new "our president is a socialist, communist, Marxist Obumbles" blogs.

Sorry

Anyways, Tug is right regarding her assessment of the caustic stuff and the same old arguments - from both sides. Perhaps I'll follow Tug and hutch and do something more productive with my time - like riding.

During my visit to Pasadena last week, I drove down Orange Grove Avenue - the beautiful street occupied by those who worked hard, invested their money wisely, and retired in beautifully landscaped condos. The FOR SALE signs were sad. Many of these people have lost their homes because of unscrupulus financial advisors and poorly managed Wall Street companies. Maybe they (Wall Street) should be called the ones who screwed us all. The fact remains, Americans and other world citizens have been screwed. While we were earning high interest on our savings and investments - it was OK. No questions asked. Now that the bottom as fallen out - we realize that in order to get this economy working again, money will need to be spent; jobs need to be created/saved; etc. Now what are your (conservative/republicans) plans to get this economy started? Do you allow the auto industry to fail - and put all of those workers on the street? Do we not allow the banks funds to assist home owners from foreclosure - and have empty houses in all of our neighborhoods? All Americans are concerned about the spending - and 60+ per cent are hopeful that the current administrations plan will work. One said 'it is not my responsibility' - and that is the attitude that got us in this mess. Leave it to George, Dick, and Rumsfeld - and we'll be OK. I hope that those who participated in the 'Parties" will assume their responsibilites and get on the computer and monitor and ask their elected local, state, and federal representatives what they are DOING! 'Just say no' didn't stop drugs - and won't get us out of this mess.

These are serious issues, and I'm sure thought is stimulated for those who choose not to participate in the discussion. Is it always necessary to insult? I'm including myself in that question.

No - create more jobs so that they have an income that can be taxed; funds that can find the way back into the economy by purchasing services and goods. Where the mistake was made during the 30's was that we allowed 'welfare' to become a crutch. To withhold assistance when it is needed during a crisis is not humane. Jobs that create a safer environment and infrastructure are needed. Fayette County is a great place to live - but really, do we need to have so many pot holes in our streets? I bet you appreciate good bike paths - and not having to navigate the streets and roads here. I believe that we have the brain power in our country and in our county to spend money wisely so that we get a return on our investment. Greed has prevented this in the world economy as well as our own American economy. Complaining is healthy. To say that the educational system in Fayette County is an exhibit of waste is an insult to the teachers in this community. They make less money than many in our country - and produce students who are consistently above the mandated national 'average'. (I also believe that we are going to have to demand more of our students if they are to compete in the world economy - but that's another discussion)

You said the magic words - BIKE PATHS!! I love you!!!!! However, the realist in me (for diva this is my right side) understands that the money spent on this will not yield any practical returns. But don't get me wrong, if "sniffles" would pay for it, by gosh I'll use it.

Honestly though, I understand the feel good emotions that come with the idea of the Guv providing jobs, material and money for public work projects to keep everyone employed. But the problem is fairly simple to see.

Our GDP has fallen by an annual rate of about 6.3% which equates to about $880 billion. That's $880 billion that is no longer exchanging hands which means wages and services are not happening. Now the Guv could inject $880 billion in an attempt to pump things along; however, this represents another 25% hit onto the federal budget. Now, do we cut things out of the budget, do we increase taxes, do we simply print more money, or do we sell more bonds for a costly future payoff?

The "hard" thing to do is to cut programs just like the family at the kitchen table working out a budget. The problem here is the "family" is congress so coming up with a workable plan is...well is not going to happen. So then the "Guv" does a combination of the other 3 options all of which are somewhat painful down the road.

Anyways, the point here is the GDP which is the measurement of the economy is about $14 trillion while the Federal Budget is only $3.6 trillion or about 26% of the GDP. The "Guv" can never really make up the losses in the GDP.

Sorry about the long post. I really don't like them either. Smiling

OK. Which investors were "screwed", who specifically "screwed" them, and how much were they screwed for?

After president teleprompter's spending plan is done, a 20 year old will owe $115,000 just to pay off the interest on all of the money that he is borrowing.

Obama and the dems are the one that is screwing the next few generations!
