The Fayetteville City Council April 16 is expected to decide on a bid for a sidewalk project along Ga. Highway 54 and consider a state loan application that could lead to bringing additional city water wells into service.

The council will consider bids on the Grady/Stonewall/Booker sidewalk project that includes a 6-foot- to 8-foot-wide sidewalk on Grady Avenue between Hwy. 54 and Ga. Highway 85, a 5-foot sidewalk on Stonewall between Jeff Davis and the Hwy. 54 turnaround on the east side of downtown and a 5-foot sidewalk along with curb and gutter and storm sewer on Booker Avenue between Hwy. 54 and the East Fayetteville Elementary School property.

City staff is recommending approval of the low bidder, College Park-based B&J Paving, at $332,792.84. The high bid was $554,174.32 from Trammel-Horton.

City Engineer Don Easterbrook said the project is a federal transportation enhancement project with $500,000 available for a federal match. The 20 percent local match came from SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds that covered the right-of-way acquisition and design. Only federal money should be needed for construction, he said.

Council members will also consider a Georgia Environmental Facilities Administration (GEFA) loan application that would bring additional wells into service as a water supply, according to Director of Water Rick Eastin. He said the application does not commit the city in any way, but will place Fayetteville on the list for possible grants and/or matching funds that might be available.

Also at the meeting, council members will recognize the essay contest winner from Fayette Middle School and will issue an Arbor Day proclamation.

At the same time, so we do not have to re-bid, when the time comes. And why does the sidewalk need to be 8ft wide is the standard not 36in....BLESS
