Frank's coming to F'ville

A staple in the restaurant business in Palmetto is opening a second location in Fayetteville. Frank’s at the Old Mill on Lake Bennett is expected to open its doors in the next couple of months.

Known by residents in south Fulton, Fayette and Coweta counties for its eclectic mix of seafood, pasta, salads and gourmet burgers, Frank’s Family Restaurant owner Frank Psomas said the time was right to open a second location, according to General Manager Diana Psomas.

While the original location on Collinsworth Road at I-85 will continue to operate, the Old Mill location on Ga. Highway 54 West will provide the opportunity for Frank to be near the water, Diana said.

“He got lucky and found the spot. He’s always loved being next to water,” she added, noting another draw to Fayetteville and Fayette County. “Sixty percent of our clients come from the Fayetteville area.”

Frank will be joined in the new venture by his brother who, said Diana, also loves the idea of having a restaurant setting partially surrounded by water.

As for the menu, Diana said the offerings will be a bit more limited and a bit different, but the patrons at Frank’s at the Old Mill will see the same gourmet quality that they have enjoyed at the Palmetto location.

Though an exact date has not been set for the Fayetteville opening, Diana said they hope to open in the next couple of months.

I agree with one of the earlier comments about the cut of steak served. My wife ordered a filet. It was not a filet! We had to send it back. Way over cooked! We were not impressed by either the quality or the service. Seemed like the same old mill resturant. Better improve or it won't make it.

Overall, it was a nice dinner. I made sure I didn't order the steak, so thanks for the heads-up. The Greek salad was incredible -- very fresh ingredients. We ordered a spinach appetizer that I was not enamored with. The Greek chicken was very good.

Since I don't often get a chance to eat pork chops, I ordered that. It was not good. When the server asked me how they were, I honestly told her I was not happy with them, and that I would never order it again. She actually started arguing with me, saying they were delicious. No apologies, nothing.
They had a problem taking my American Express, saying the "machine didn't work," but when I told them I had no other card, they "could make it work."

It did bring back some wonderful memories, and I would go back just for the Greek salad. Other than that, if you are a non-smoker, get ready to hold your breath through the outdoor entrance. Filthy ashtrays everywhere, and it seems to be the smoking section. By 5:30, the place was packed.

Yes it is open. And yes, I have been told that it is the same owner? as the restaurant in Palmetto. But don't bother. All new eating places in and around Fayetteville are bombarded when they first open. This area is so starved (no pun intended) for new good interesting eating places. I give it a month. By then most will have tried it and will never return. Bad food. Poor service. The same atmosphere as the mill was many years ago. Don't be fooled by the cheap menu prices. Cheap food. My husband ordered a filet and was served a piece of chuck tender or top butt, something less-than-honorable restaurants substitute for filet. Long after the food arrived at the table the waitress returned asking about the steak. When I asked her if the meat was indeed filet she told me that they actually use chuck meat and did not seem concerned when I told her that the menu should reflect what product is served. I should have been more leery when the couple seated next to us called the waitress back twice for their food problems and inevitably pushed away full plates of food. To compound matters more, it was my birthday, and with the bill came a gift certificate signed by Frank? (it's hard to read) for the price of the steak meal. Why would we return? Instead of comping the meal, he gave us a gift certificate?? which means he never lost a dime on his fake filet. Shame on restauranteurs such as this. I predict his business at this location will fail as well it should.

The filet is what I would have ordered. If I go there at all, I will be sure of what I'm ordering. I enjoyed Old Mill. They had excellent food but I've heard the stories before of the eccentric owner of the property. I hope Franks does well. They won't if they sell out their good name over a portion of meat.

Hey landlord, if you want to continue receiving income there play nice.

The last few times I have been by Franks at dinner time the parking lot was beyond full and people were parking along 54. It's been quite the destination early and I'll wait until it cools-off a little.

The Old Mill(when ran by Malone's, not the property owner) was awesome and I'm hoping to see Franks do the same. That location/setting is great and Fayette has a real need for good restaurants.

"...loves the idea of having a restaurant setting partially surrounded by water"

And Frank, we really really wish you well there and hope that not only do you thrive at this location (as opposed to the previous restaurants that failed there) but that the place will remain PARTIALLY surrounded by water and not flood out.

Good Luck, and I will see you there on opening night!!!

Just to set the record straight, I would like to point out that the Olde Mill Steakhouse DID NOT fail. The guy who owned it was a big jerk and was very uncooperative in renewing the lease and wanted an outrageous amount of money for the owner of Olde Mill Steakhouse to buy it. The restaurant thrived and still has many different locations around Atlanta-- it NEVER failed.

You are correct about the situation at this location. It's been stated on here more than once...that said, the restaurant business is definitely a tricky one.
