A Fairburn woman was charged with cruelty to children April 11 after her 3-year-old son was found in Stevie B’s Pizza’s parking lot while the mother was visiting a nearby business.

Marie Carmelle Osias, 31, was charged with 2nd degree child abuse (cruelty to children), according to Fayetteville Police Maj. Kevin Gooding. The charge is a felony.

Gooding said police received a report of a woman finding a small child in the restaurant parking lot at approximately 5:48 p.m. Entering the store with the child, the woman was assisted by store employees. One employee said she remembered a woman eating with a small child. The woman left the store after finishing her meal, officers were told.

A 9-year-old boy who had apparently been playing video games walked up to the group as they stood trying to locate the parent, Gooding said. The boy said the 3-year-old was his brother, said Gooding. About that time Osias walked up, identifying herself as the mother, Gooding said. Osias said she left the children to play “for a minute“ while she went to Hobby Lobby.

Gooding said Osias was away from the restaurant for 25-30 minutes.

I will never understand why God allows people to have children who do not take proper care of them. You see it everyday and this is another example too of the trash not only moving into our community but who come here to shop as well. This woman should have her child taken away since the small boy was not watched and allowed to run outside in a dangerous parking lot.
