A Fairburn woman was charged with cruelty to children April 11 after her 3-year-old son was found in Stevie B’s Pizza’s parking lot while the mother was visiting a nearby business. Marie Carmelle Osias, 31, was charged with 2nd degree child abuse (cruelty to children), according to Fayetteville Police Maj. Kevin Gooding. The charge is a felony. Gooding said police received a report of a woman finding a small child in the restaurant parking lot at approximately 5:48 p.m. Entering the store with the child, the woman was assisted by store employees. One employee said she remembered a woman eating with a small child. The woman left the store after finishing her meal, officers were told. A 9-year-old boy who had apparently been playing video games walked up to the group as they stood trying to locate the parent, Gooding said. The boy said the 3-year-old was his brother, said Gooding. About that time Osias walked up, identifying herself as the mother, Gooding said. Osias said she left the children to play “for a minute“ while she went to Hobby Lobby. Gooding said Osias was away from the restaurant for 25-30 minutes. login to post comments |
