Suspect arrested immediately after crash

A woman running from Union City police crashed her car head-on into an unmarked sheriff's detective's SUV on Gingercake Road west of Fayetteville as she tried to evade a swarm of police on her trail this afternoon.

A young boy strapped into a car seat in the back of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to Scottish Rite hospital in Atlanta as a precaution, officials said.

The woman was uninjured, and the detective suffered minor injuries, officials said.

The driver of the red Mustang was immediately arrested after the crash, which happened just before 2 p.m. at Gingercake Road and Gingercake Drive.

Union City police were trying to stop the vehicle on fraud-related charges, police said.

The pursuit entered Fayette County on West Bridge Road and headed down 92 South as deputies raced to the area and one unit deployed stop sticks. After the suspect turned onto Gingercake Road, another deputy was able to use stop sticks to disable one of the vehicle's tires before the collision.

Deputies responding to the scene were aided by Hawk 1, the sheriff's department's helicopter, which was able to call out the suspect's direction of travel.

The crash caused significant damage to the front of both vehicles and was strong enough to cause the airbags to be fired in both vehicles.

In addition to the fraud charges from Union City, the driver will face traffic-related charges in Fayette County stemming from the pursuit.

I wonder if the person driving the mustang can file a claim with her insurance company.

This person could file a claim, but it probably would be denied by the insurance company. There is usually an exclusion in an insurance contact that would decline coverage while the vehicle is being used during the commission of a crime.

Good job another criminal goes down.

Note to all criminals: Go north into fulton-crime-county next time. That would be a good place for you.

Todays lesson, don't fool with Fayette County...Union City hopefully took notes, looks like our Sheriff's Dept was first rate in handlig the situation.

Hawk 1 seems to be the right investment and tool for just such and situation.

Cool takedown...Would like more details on the tactics of the unmarked SUV. Doesn't even look dented. Moron comes in to Fayette down Randall Road (that was dumb) and the SO is swiftly able to git 'er done. Stop sticks are always fun to watch but Air Jordan 1 is one of our best assets.

Spread the word--- we get it done !
