Joyride for 3 teens runs out of juice with arrestsTue, 04/07/2009 - 4:04pm

Three juveniles were arrested Saturday after taking a trip from one end of Peachtree City to the other on a series of stolen golf carts that they abandoned one after the other when the electrically-powered vehicles ran out of juice, police said. The incident began when one juvenile stole a golf cart from McIntosh High School around 1 p.m. Friday, April 4, the last school day before spring break, police said. The joyrides ended at the Waffle House on Ga. Highway 54 early the next morning as one of the juveniles was so intoxicated a concerned employee notified police, officials said. As each golf cart “wore out,” perhaps from running out of charge, another golf cart would be stolen from the area nearby, police said. The first cart died out around the Raintree Bend area where another cart was stolen, and that cart lasted until near the Groveland subdivision, where another cart was taken to the area of the Braelinn Village Store, police said. When that cart died, two were stolen in succession from the Rockspray subdivision after the first one died quickly. Also while in Rockspray, the juveniles stole 15 beers from a refrigerator in an open garage, police said. All three juveniles live in Peachtree City and are 15 years old, police said. The first juvenile was charged with underage possession of alcohol, public intoxication, a curfew violation and five counts of theft by taking motor vehicle. The second juvenile was charged with being an unruly child and two counts of theft by taking motor vehicle. A third juvenile was charged with being an unruly child, three counts of theft by taking motor vehicle and possession of marijuana (less than one ounce). A fourth juvenile was not arrested after it was determined he didn’t have anything to do with the incident, police said. Three of the juveniles go to McIntosh High School and one goes to Starr’s Mill, police confirmed. login to post comments |
