Churches set Holy Week servicesTue, 04/07/2009 - 3:59pm

Christian churches in Fayette and Coweta counties will join with Christian churches all over the world this week as they celebrate one of the foremost holidays of the church — Holy Week and Easter — the mourning of the death and celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Although most Christian churches will have special Easter services, the following have announced specific activities and service times: • All Saints Anglican Church, 303 Kelly Drive in Peachtree City, will have a Maundy Thursday service April 9 at 7 p.m., and a Good Friday service April 10 at 7 p.m. On Saturday, April 11, Easter Eve Morning Prayer will be held at 8:30 a.m. followed by an Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m. Call 770-486-5374 for directions. That evening, an Easter Vigil is planned for 8:30 p.m.. Easter Sunday services are scheduled for 8 and 10:30 a.m. • Bethany United Methodist Church will have a combination Maundy Thursday and Good Friday service on Thursday at 7 p.m. A sunrise service is at 7 a.m. on Sunday, followed by breakfast and a service at 11 a.m. Bethany is on the corner of Rivers/Milam and Lee’s Lake roads in north Fayette County. • Brooks United Methodist Church will have a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. on April 9 and a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. on April 10. On Saturday, April 11 from 3-5 p.m. the church will host an Easter Extravaganza with fun and refreshments for all ages. There will be a raffle for adults with prizes from Starbucks, Merlin Muffler, Southern Accent, McDonald’s, Subway and Home Depot with the drawing at 4 p.m. Children will enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt (bring your own basket), inflatables to play on and a puppet show at 4 p.m. by “That Puppet Guy.” The Easter sunrise service will be at Brooks Cemetery at 7 a.m. Sunday morning, followed by a community breakfast in the church gym. Easter worship will be held at 8:45 and 11 a.m. For more information call 770-719-7593 or visit the website at www.brooksumc.com. • Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City will have a Good Friday service April 10 at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, Sunday School starts at 9:30 a.m. with Easter worship following at 11 a.m. Carriage Lane is at 101 Carriage Lane (Ga. Highway 54 at Carriage Lane), Peachtree City. For information, call 770-631-4618. • Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will offer two services on Maundy Thursday, April 9. The first service is at 12:15 p.m. At 7 p.m. Christ Our Shepherd will welcome First Presbyterian Church to share the service. Vicar Jennifer Fisher will be the preacher at both services, which will include Holy Communion. Worshipers are invited to a reception in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 5:30 p.m. The annual Cross Walk will begin at 4 p.m. on Good Friday, April 10. Assembling at the church, a group will proceed to Picnic Park carrying three huge crosses. A brief service will then take place at the park. The Good Friday Tenebrae service will be at 8 p.m. Sanctuary Choir and Da Chiesa (orchestra) will present “Requiem” by John Rutter. James C. Hagberg will conduct, and Delee Rehak will be the soloist. A prayer vigil will begin immediately after the Tenebrae, lasting until sunrise on Easter. Easter Vigil worship, built around great stories from the Bible, will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday. The youth at Christ Our Shepherd will plan and lead the Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. The high school band, “one50,” and middle school band, “Mobius,” will lead music, and Samuel Compagno, David Cook and Kristen Huie will preach. Justin Durden will be the worship assistant. Festival worship on Easter is at 8:30 and 10 a.m. Sanctuary Choir, The Christ Our Shepherd Brass, and Joyful Noise Ringers will provide festal music. Pastor Miriam Beecher will preach at these services, as well as at the 11:30 a.m. service in the sanctuary. The 9 a.m. service in the Fellowship Hall will feature music by GraceFlock Band. Pastor David Johnson will celebrate communion. The church is on the corner of Ga. Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City. • Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg will observe Stations of the Cross Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. On Maundy Thursday, Christ the King will have Holy Communion and a ceremonial stripping of the altar beginning at 7:30 p.m. Christ the King members will participate in the Community Good Friday service at Peachtree City United Methodist Church, Friday, April 10 at noon and, that evening, a Good Friday service will be held at Christ the King at 7:30 p.m. Easter Sunday services will be held on April 12 at 8 and 10 a.m. Christ the King is on Ga. Highway 34 between Peachtree City and Thomas Crossroads. • Edgefield Baptist Church in Fayetteville will have a Passover service Wednesday, April 8 at 7 p.m. and a Good Friday service Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m. Resurrection Day service will be held Sunday, April 12, at 10 a.m. Edgefield is at 140 Church Street, Fayetteville. For info call 770-461-7388. • The Episcopal Church of the Nativity will have a Maundy Thursday service April 9 at 7 p.m. and Good Friday services on April 10 at noon and 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, services will be at 6 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. The church is at 130 Antioch Rd., Fayetteville. Easter worship services Sunday morning will be at 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. The church is in downtown Fayetteville across from the Fayette County Courthouse. • Fellowship of Love Church will have Easter Worship services on April 12 at 9 a.m. at a special location, North Fayette Elementary School, 609 Kenwood Rd., Fayetteville. The pastor is B.A. Jackson. • Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will have a Holy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9. On Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m., all children are invited to participate in the annual Easter Egg Hunt on the church lawn. On Easter Sunday, April 12, there will be two services, one at 8:30 and another at 11 a.m. Because of the busy Easter schedule, the choir will present the Easter Cantata on April 19, the Sunday after Easter, at the 11 a.m. service. That same evening, at 7 p.m., there will be a Witness Service. Hopewell is at 351 Jenkins Rd., across from Sandy Creek High School. Jennifer Andone will conduct the service. • The Lighthouse Church will host a service of Healing and Baptism/Baptism Renewals on Holy Thursday, April 9 at 245 Sandy Lake Circle, Fayetteville (vicinity of Adams and Sandy Creek roads). On April 12, the Easter Sunday Celebration will be held at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center’s Peachtree Ballroom, 2433 Ga. Hwy. 54 West, Peachtree City. • The McDonough Road Baptist Church family will celebrate Easter at 10:55 a.m. Sunday morning, April 12. Pastor David L. Chancey will preach on “The Good News Easter Brings.” • New Hope Baptist Church will begin its Easter weekend events with an Easter EGGStravaganza Saturday, April 11, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The event will feature breakfast with the pastor, egg hunts for children in preschool through fifth grade, inflatables, clown shows, face painting and family fun. This is a free event except for food ($1 for students; $2 for adults). Easter Sunday services are planned for 8 and 10:55 a.m. at the North Campus and at 9:15 a.m. at the South Campus. Visitors will receive a special gift. The South Campus is at 1563 Ga. Hwy. 74 south, near Senoia. The North Campus is at 551 New Hope Rd., Fayetteville. On Sunday, April 12 at 3 p.m. the church will offer an Easter Sunday service with Holy Communion. All services will be held at the church. A bike show is planned between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. On Sunday morning, an Easter service is planned for 10 a.m., also at the Villages Amphitheater. An egg hunt begins at 11:45 with golden egg awards. Children need to bring their own baskets. On Easter Sunday, a contemporary service will be at 9 am, followed by a traditional service at 11:15 am. Sunday School begins at 10:15 am. A special Children’s Church will be offered during both services. PTC First Presbyterian Church is in the heart of Peachtree City at 206 Willowbend Rd, across from city hall. • Peachtree City United Methodist Church has announced its upcoming activities for Holy Week and Easter beginning with Maundy Thursday and concluding with Easter Sunday. On Thursday, April 9 at 7 p.m. the church will have a Maundy Thursday service of Healing and Communion. On Easter Sunday, April 12, the church will offer four worship services: at 7 a.m. there will be a youth-led Son-Rise service on the lower right hand parking lot; at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. the church will have Easter Celebration services in the sanctuary featuring the chancel Choir and Orchestra. Childcare is available for children up to age 4 for the 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday services only. The church is at 225 Robinson Rd., Peachtree City. On Easter Sunday, an outdoor sunrise service will be held at 7:30 a.m., a contemporary Easter service at 9:15 a.m., an Easter Egg Hunt at 10:45 a.m., and the pipe organ Easter service at 11:15 a.m. Breakfast will be served all morning. Justin Kollmeyer is pastor. • Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in east Coweta County will begin Easter weekend with a Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, April 9 at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, April 10, Stations of the Cross will be at 3 p.m. followed by a Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 7 p.m. An Easter Vigil Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 p.m. on Holy Saturday, April 11. Easter Sunday Masses on April 12 include Masses at 9 and 10:30 a.m. and at noon. A nursery will be available at the 9 a.m. and noon Masses and ASL interpretations for the deaf will be available at the noon Mass. St. Mary Magdalene is at 3 Village Road between Ga.
