Fayetteville police made three traffic stops over the weekend that resulted in felony drug charges and seizure of a stolen weapon. One of the arrests came after 27-year-old Roswell resident Virgil Chandler was observed crossing the center line several times while driving on Jeff Davis Drive, said Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers noted the smell of marijuana and called for the city’s K-9 unit. A positive alert by the dog led to the search of the vehicle and the discovery of a backpack containing a bag of suspected marijuana, two bags containing possible marijuana seeds, scales, two grinders and a cigar holder containing a suspected marijuana joint, Crawshaw said. Also found in the vehicle was a .35-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun reported stolen from Hall County, Crawshaw said. Chandler was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and theft by receiving stolen property, Crawshaw said. Another felony marijuana arrested was made April 5 at Cobblestone Apartments after a vehicle ran a stop sign and was pulled over by officers. Noting that the vehicle’s occupants seemed nervous, the officer asked and received permission to check the vehicle, said Crawshaw. Officers found two sandwich bags full of suspected marijuana that had been packaged inside smaller bags, Crawshaw said. Arrested at the scene was 17-year-old Fayetteville resident Jerald Fowler on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Crawshaw said. Crawshaw said that while being transported to the county jail, both Fowler and 19-year-old Latavia Illi, who was also in the police vehicle, told officers they had a small quantity of marijuana stuffed in their underwear. Illi was subsequently charged with misdemeanor possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, Crawshaw said. A third drug incident occurred April 6 at 1:30 a.m. at Cobblestone when 17-year-old Fayetteville resident Tyler Brooks was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Crawshaw said. Also charged with felony possession were 18-year-old Darius Lollar and 18-year-old Justin Hudson, both of Fayetteville, said Crawshaw. Seized at the site were several bags containing varying amounts of suspected marijuana, Crawshaw said. login to post comments |
