Getting Married: Need Help

matt.barnes's picture

I need to find a church. I don't like mega churches and I don't want to become a member or spend the next 6 months going to service. I would like to find an old country church that is close to Peachtree City. Does anybody have a suggestion?

Go see the judge, then head on to your favorite restaruant, and order up a round.....Good Luck....A couple of Margaritias should provide all the help you need for a good send off....Check out the Covered Bridge just south of Gay on big redwood creek, makes for some good pictures, and ill see if i can book Chuck Norris to sing at your reception.....PEACE

There are several old churches in Talbot and Upson Counties that could be perfect for your wedding. If you are really interested, I can give directions, recommend a wedding director, pastor, and caterer.

Does the future bride know about your blogging addiction yet? If not, please let her know soon. Mrs. Cy wants to beat me with a frying pan every time I log in. Smiling

This place caught my eye once when I was down in Pine Mountain. There's pretty scenery all around, and the chapel looks nice.

That place looks amazing but I would have to shave off about 75 guests.

Do we have to invite her family?

Has a lovely chapel - and a great area to visit with family and friends.

A new church is opening in Fayetteville and you wouldn't have to be a member to get married there...True Light Church, on S. Jeff Davis Drive...

Front yard has very picturesque(sp?) large oaks...would make a beautiful setting.

Opening in a few more weeks...

She loves that place. But it is too pricey. Her research objective for today is Dunaway Gardens.

If you are not a member of a church and don't want to join a church, why do you want to get married in a church?

I'm really just wondering.

My opinion: The wedding is for you guys. Go get married wherever/however you want. Have a reception for the family to celebrate with you afterward. The marriage is where you need your family and friends around you.

Mostly, I just think a church would make things much easier. They are already set up for this stuff. Our first idea was an outdoor wedding. But an outdoor wedding seems really stressful. You have to worried about weather. You have to rent and set up seating. All that stuff has to go back. You have to find a minister. At a church that stuff is taken care of. All of our friends weddings so far have been stuffy, stressful and expensive. I have a lot of family coming down. Most of whom I don't see very often and I am just as excited for family reunion part as I am the wedding part. So I want every body to be relaxed and have a good time. I don't want people to feel like this is a burden.

Most churches would like you or your family to be a member of the church you want to get married in. Nothing wrong with getting married at a state park or beach either - there is a lot of spirituality in the right natural setting. Alternately, just check out some of the smaller churches around. Good luck on it - and congrats. Don't let the wedding prep drive you both up the wall.

If it was up to me, we would just go on vacation and come back married. But I have a big family. Our first choice was Drake field but we are worried about bad weather. State Parks are cool but they don't allow drinking.

Hey, there is the gazebo at the Three Ponds at Braelinn Smiling Cheap...can accommodate all those family members on the grass...catfish in the muddy ponds....YEE-HAW! You can take the money saved andt spend it on all the booze you'll need to survive getting married + a ginormous family reunion at the same time!

Congratulations on your wedding and remember, you don't have an opinion that matters on ANYTHING(the bride and/or her mother or yours is right)to do with the wedding and YOUR job is to simply show up on time and say a few words!

Fish Fry/Shotgun wedding. Cool! Where do I sign up for that.

I wish all I had to do is show up. Her mom isn't as involved as most moms are. SO I have to pick up a lot of the slack. Hence, this blog.

The fish fry by the water sounds good. Hope there's a rope swing, so the wedding party will have something to do before and after the ceremony.

Be sure to have several galvanized tubs full of canned Lite beer and ice.

what a laugh!

There is a lovely house in McDonough, Hazelhurst House, they offer package deals, wedding, reception, photographs, everything.

There is Pristine Chapel in Jonesboro.

Perhaps you might know someone in PTC that has a boat dock/gazebo you could use. Or how about someone's backyard that has a gazebo. Or wedding tent rentals.

Most churches do require that you be a member, however, like most things in life, if you are willing to pay, they are usually willing to accommodate.

I have researched a few of those all inclusive places. So far the cheapest I can find is ten grand. Even if its not my money I still can't stomach that. I really like the Flat Creek country club. They quoted me arounnd $10,500. Suprisingly that is reasonable compared to others offering similar services.

The Drake was very nice to my wife and I for our October wedding. It was before the playground BTW.

The weather was comfortable, no rain in sight and a slight breeze to boot. Someone even had a sailboat on the lake to add to the atmosphere. Even the ducks cooperated.

Drake Field would work if you can find a suitable backup place. Consider making your reception hall your indoor backup and book it for a few hours earlier. That way you'll be covered if it does get rough outside.

Whitewater Baptist on Hwy 85 Connector (Brooks). It's a small country church (1826?) with a nice graveyard in the back that includes some early 1800 markers. When my whole family attends, grandchildren included (and even on a holiday) the congregation totals no more than 25! The inside is beautiful, very serene, and if you're a proponent of less is more then you will adore this church. Give Reverend Jim a call, or come by some Sunday at 11:00!
