Nature's Landscaping hit by thievesTue, 03/31/2009 - 3:46pm

For Nature’s Landscaping owner Phil Jackson, two times is two too many. His Kathi Avenue business in Fayetteville was burglarized over the weekend for the second time in less than a year. Jackson hopes that with even more security features being installed, the second burglary will be the last. Thieves entered the property by cutting through a chain-link fence and stole catalytic converters from three company vehicles, four weed-eaters, two edgers and two blowers. “It was a clean cut,” Jackson said Monday, noting how the portion of the fence had been cut to allow entry into the property. Jackson’s father started the business at the Fayetteville location in 1980. Twenty-eight years had come and gone without a break-in on the property. Then, in May 2008, thieves came in one night and stole $26,000 worth of mowers, weed-eaters and blowers. Jackson then put a number of security features in place to deter would-be thieves. Jackson said he will be meeting with police to go over any possible deterrents beyond those he is now putting in place since last weekend’s theft. As he spoke Monday morning, Jackson said it is not about the insurance that will replace the stolen items, it is about the loss of equipment until replacements can be obtained and the down-time for his business. “The cops were helpful with suggestions after the first burglary,” Jackson said, frustrated at being a target for thieves for a second time. “The cops can’t be everywhere, in every alley. I just don’t know the solution for this.” login to post comments |
