More ‘space’ for new cart path

50-foot buffer now required when path darts between homes

Developers wanting to run cart paths between homes in the future will have to provide some more cushion thanks to a new rule adopted by the Peachtree City Council Thursday night.

Now the city will require a 50-foot wide greenbelt be included with the path anywhere it will go between two residential lots.

The ordinance also requires the location and design of the path to be shown on construction documents. The only clearing and grading allowed in the greenbelt would be limited to what is needed to build the path, according to City Planner David Rast.

The idea is to prevent problems like those reported by residents in the Cedarcroft subdivision, who have complained recently of rowdy activity on the paths along with carts traveling too fast with small children present. The path in question, which is a direct route to the 24-hour Wal Mart superstore, was designed to skirt almost directly up to property lines of several homes.

Cedarcroft officials are working with the city on an option that would allow for that section of path to be closed.

Its a shame that it took the Cedarcroft problem for the council to decide to finally step up and do something like this. Now they need to go back to Cedarcroft and admit they were wrong and fix the problem there since its obviously a big problem!

Watch, the city code enforcement will mail a letter telling that one family (the one that had all the vandalism problems) to move their fence for a third time. To meet the 50 foot buffer ordinance.
