Hydrant check: watch your water color

Starting this month and running through the end of April, the Peachtree City Fire Department will be testing fire hydrants throughout town.

The process can occasionally stir up sediment that has built up in the system and cause the water to have a dirty appearance, fire officials said.

Residents are advised to check the color of their water before washing their laundry or dishes. If the water appears dirty, it can be cleared by running the faucet until clear water appears, officials said.

for you to give PTC residents a heads up that their fire hydrants will be being checked over the next several weeks. I wish the FCFD would be so kind as to notify (like this short newspaper blurb) those of us in their fire hydrant testing areas before they conduct their tests.

the FCFD doesn't test the hydrants any longer. the water department does. the FCFD just lubes the connections and "burps" them to insure that the stems are not broken. they do not actually flow water any longer.
