Fayette sheriff's detectives have determined that a reported armed robbery this morning at the intersection of Kenwood and Longview roads did not occur, officials said.

A man reported the robbery to 911 before 9:30 a.m., which sent numerous deputies to the area in the search of a black Suburban vehicle containing a black male that took off towards New Hope Road.

But after speaking with the victim, detectives determined that the crime did not occur at all, said Lt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives declined to file charges against the man who made the allegation. He could have potentially faced a charge of making a false crime report.

What the heck > Detectives declined to file charges against the man who made the allegation.

Come on, how much time and expense did he cost the county? Charge him, don't understand why he was not charged. Makes the county look weak on enforcement.

That this could have been a diversion, to allow a crime to go down elsewhere, while all the deputys were tied up with this clown, i say a substantial fine at the very least would be in order...Oh well...

So, another false crime blaming the Black male. Sheesh! We already got too many who actually DO commit crimes, we don't need any ficticious ones!

Why is potentially used? He did it. Charge the dumb SOB.

This makes no sense to me. If one files a false police report, especially one that may be sensationalized, why don't they get slammed?

We have learned not to charge "crazies" with false report of a crime.
Most DA's will refuse to take the case (for obvious reasons).

You would be amazed how many false crimes are reported every week by people with psychological problems.
