Let's hear from Abraham Lincoln...

In 1864, Lincoln wrote the following letter to his friend William Elkins:

"We may congratulate ourselves that this cruel war is nearing its end. It has cost a vast amount of treasure and blood...It has indeed been a trying hour for the Republic; but I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxious for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless"

All that is needed for evil to succeed is for wise men to do nothing.

"All that is needed for evil to succeed is for wise men to do nothing."

Or...for the masses not to listen to wise men.

Reminds me of Thomas Paine's 'Common Sense':

"Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not yet sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favor; a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason." - Author's Introduction

Those that may not have appreciated Lincoln's foresight and wisdom may very well now see the genius of the man.

Just imagine what if Lincoln had not been assinated, that day at the theater..... Ah if we could only travel time. The sad part is have we learned anything from this, for today we all should be able to come together and change history without having to fire a single round....PEACE
