Coweta names new principals for four schools

At their March 10 monthly meeting, the Coweta County Board of Education named new principals for several Coweta County schools which will have openings in the upcoming school year, Sean Dye was named principal of Jefferson Parkway Elementary School; Christi Hildebrand was named principal of Elm Street Elementary School; Vern Mamon was named principal of Winston Dowdell Academy; and Leigh Munson was named Principal of Eastside Elementary School.

All four will begin at their new posts officially on July 1, but will plan for their schools’ new academic year in addition to their current duties.

Christi Hildebrand – who is currently serving as the school system’s School Improvement and Testing Coordinator – will become the principal of Elm Street Elementary School next year, replacing outgoing principal Julie Raschen when she leaves to become the principal of the new Brooks Elementary School at the end of the school year.

Hildebrand began teaching in Florida schools in 1998, as a 1st grade teacher at Philip Shore Magnet School and a Technology Resource Teacher at Dunbar Technology Magnet School. She also served as National Staff Development Consultant for International Learning Systems and as a teacher for three years in Fulton County Schools. Hildebrand came to Coweta County’s Smokey Road Middle School as a Title I Coordinator and was named as an assistant principal in 2006 at Lee Middle School before moving to become Evan Middle School’s School Improvement Specialist in 2007.

Hildebrand earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida in 1998, and her Masters of Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 2001. She is currently pursuing her doctorate. Hildebrand’s husband, Clay Hildebrand, teaches math at Smokey Road Middle School, and was the Coweta County School System’s 2007 Teacher of the Year and a finalist for 2008 Georgia Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Sean Dye – who is currently serving as an assistant principal at Ruth Hill Elementary School – will become the principal of Jefferson Parkway Elementary School. Dye will replace Principal Bill Sanborn when he leaves to become the new assistant principal at Moreland Elementary School at the end of the school year.

Dye is a 15-year educator who began his teaching career at Westlake High School in Fulton County in 1994. After nine years as a high school science teacher, department chair, and baseball coach, he came to the Coweta County School System as an assistant principal at Smokey Road Middle School. Dye spent five years at Smokey Road before becoming Ruth Hill’s assistant principal in 2008.

Dye earned his B.S. in Biology from Morehouse College in 1993, his Master’s in Secondary Education from West Georgia College in 1994, his Specialist’s degree in Educational Leadership in 2007 from Argosy University, and his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University in 2008. He is married to Windy Dye and the couple has two sons, Kamran and Karston, who both attend Ruth Hill.

Leigh Munson – who is currently an assistant principal at Moreland Elementary School – will become the principal of Eastside Elementary School. Munson will replace Eastside Principal Sandra Hinton when she retires at the end of the school year.

Munson is a 21-year educator. She began teaching 2nd grade at Moreland Elementary in 1988. After 13 years as a teacher she was named the school’s assistant principal. Munson earned her B.A. in Early Childhood Education at LaGrange College in 1988, her Master’s in Early Childhood Education from West Georgia College in 1991, and her Specialist’s degree in Education, Supervision and Leadership in 2000.

Munson is married to Stanley Munson, who works in Atlanta for IBM. The Munsons are members of Unity Baptist Church, and have one daughter, Lindsay, who is a freshman at Newnan High School.

Vern Mamon – who is currently the principal of Night High School, Summer High School and the Performance Learning Center at the Central Educational Center – will become principal of Winston Dowdell Academy. Mamon will replace Dr. Peggy Guebert, who will take the duties of School Improvement and Testing Coordinator for the school system next year.

Mamon is a 28-year educator. He began his career in New Orleans Public Schools, then moved to Milwaukee Schools, where he taught social studies and then served as a school administrator at the middle and high school levels. Mamon came to Newnan High School in 1999 as an assistant principal, and began as principal of CEC’s special programs in 2007.

Mamon earned his B.S. from Grambling University in Louisiana in 1977, his Masters of Arts in Education at Grambling in 1989, and his Education Specialist from Troy State University in 2004. A native of Louisiana, Mamon is married to June Mamon. The Mamons are members of World Covenant Christian Center in McDonough, and have a 15-year-old son, Travis.
