Killer still at large in N. Fayette party shootingTue, 03/10/2009 - 4:57pm

As of Tuesday afternoon no arrests had been made in a shooting that injured two and killed a third victim in the aftermath of a party that got out of control in the Country Lakes subdivision in north Fayette County late Saturday night. Fayette sheriff’s detectives are continuing to follow leads and speak with witnesses in the case, officers said. Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call deputies at 770-461-6353. “We know somebody saw who the shooter was,” said sheriff’s Lt. Belinda McCastle. The deceased was identified as Andrew Wells, 19, of Riverdale. One of the other two victims was identified as Jaquavius Dillingham, 18, of Union City, who was taken to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment with a non-life threatening injury, officials said. A reported third victim has not yet been identified by deputies. The party was “crashed” by uninvited guests and partygoers numbered in the hundreds by the time deputies were summoned to the scene to clear the street, which had cars parked on both sides, partygoers in the cul-de-sac and in the yard and home at 265 Moss Creek Walk. Deputies were already on the scene after 10:30, shooing away partygoers when the shots rang out, McCastle said. Immediately people began running in different directions, unsure where to go for safety. The shots were fired after some type of fight broke out, McCastle said. Officials believe a number of people at the party were not invited but attended after learning of it from text messages, McCastle said. The party was authorized by the parents at the home, who were present during the time of the event, McCastle said. The parents have cooperated with authorities, she added. Although investigators are working to determine if the shooting was gang-related, there has not yet been any indication that is the case, McCastle said. McCastle said the sheriff’s office was thankful for support from the Fayetteville and Clayton County police departments and also the Clayton County Sheriff’s Department. login to post comments |
