It does not pay to run stop signs. Two people were arrested on drug-related charges in Fayetteville March 6 after failing to stop at the intersection of Ga. Highway 54 and Chase Drive. Arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute was 33-year-old Hampton resident Bakeen Elias Townsel, according to Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw. Also arrested was Brittany Nicole Russell, 18, of Fayetteville, on charges of possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, said Crawshaw. The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. Speaking with the occupants and shining his flashlight inside the vehicle, the officer noticed their glassy and bloodshot eyes, “roaches” (marijuana cigarette butts) in the ashtray and a smell he believed to be marijuana, Crawshaw said. Questioned about the smell, Townsel said his girlfriend sometimes plays tricks on him by spraying him with marijuana-scented cologne, said Crawshaw. A search of the vehicle and occupants revealed that Townsel had a bag in one of his pockets that contained several smaller bags of suspected marijuana, said Crawshaw. The quantity of marijuana was unknown, said Crawshaw. A search of Russell revealed a 1-inch roach in her possession, Crawshaw said. In another weekend incident, officers March 7 responded to an 11:30 p.m. alarm at Southern Medical Products on Hwy. 54 West. Crawshaw said the officer found damage to the store’s front door. An implement had been used to pry the door open. The burglar took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, Crawshaw said. No other damage was reported, he said. login to post comments |
