Turn self in at police department, and they’ll waive fee, trip to jail

If you have an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear in Peachtree City’s municipal court, the city has a deal for you!

Approximately 200 such offenders are being offered a waiver of the customary $55 fee for failure to appear in court. Also, police will decline to haul such offenders off for processing at the Fayette County jail, officials said.

The catch is that the offenders must turn themselves in Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the police department, located on Ga. Highway 74 south almost directly across from Gill-Roy’s hardware store.

Some might argue turning oneself in and avoiding a trip to jail might just be worth it, on top of the $55 fee waiver.

The program is being offered for municipal court offenders, where cases run the gamut from traffic citations to misdemeanor charges such as shoplifting to various city ordinances, police said.

The “amnesty” program runs now through April 15, and offenders have been notified through a postcard sent in the mail. Also eligible are offenders who didn’t receive a postcard but believe a warrant may exist for them because they missed a court date, police said.

Those who choose not to participate will be sought by officers and brought to jail once captured, police said.

Ok, so they get a free pass for breaking the law.....

Why not give the rest of us who paid our tickets a discount for showing up and paying on time?

This is sad.

are usually very successful. It's cheaper than chasing the criminals. Not saying it's perfect, but it works.

Now all of the bonding companies (and individuals) that have posted bonds can LEGALLY get away with not paying their bonds off!! Fayette County State and Superior Courts should try this. They are not collecting the bond forfeitures as it is!
