PTC man faces 15 charges for assault on wife

A Fayette County grand jury this week formally charged a Peachtree City man with the savage beating of his wife stemming from an incident at their home Jan. 20.

Michael William Ellicott of Portico Place was indicted on five counts of aggravated assault (family violence), six counts of aggravated battery (family violence), two counts of aggravated sodomy, one count of rape and one count of false imprisonment.

Ellicott remains in jail as he has been denied bond. His wife testified recently in graphic detail how Ellicott brutally beat her in the couple’s basement.

Pamela Ellicott said she escaped the couple’s home after her husband stopped beating her to take a phone call. After getting her daughter, Mrs. Ellicott went to a neighbor’s house from where police were summoned.

Pamela Ellicott also testified that previously she had not told anybody about the physical abuse from her husband because he had threatened to hunt her down and kill her if she ever told police.

That fear, she said, was eclipsed Jan. 20 by the fear he would kill her if she stayed in their home after the assault.

Pamela Ellicott’s testimony came during a hearing in which Superior Court Judge Paschal A. English Jr. extended the protective order that forbids Michael Ellicott from contacting her or their children in any way. It also requires he keep a minimum distance of 500 yards from them and not harass, threaten or assault them.

The trial date has been preliminarily set for April 13 but if that date is extended English has said he would reconsider issuing a bond.

Fayette County assistant district attorney Lura Landis previously has said this case is the worst domestic abuse case she has witnessed in her entire career.

Aggravated assault and aggravated battery charges carry a prison sentence between 1 and 20 years. But the rape charge carries a potential of up to life without parole, and the district attorney’s office is also empowered to seek a death penalty for a rape conviction, according to Georgia law.

This kind of family dysfunction damages the generations and it's so important to support the Ellicott children. They are forced through the public analysis of their family dynamics and no matter how dark you paint their dad, these kids are still half him -- genetically and by his presence in their formative years. Mike Ellicott is smart, served his country, and made it to a good pilot job. His kids have many reasons to love him. They have many reasons to love their mom too. Flip comments about letting him "get it in jail" are hurtful. Yes, Mike will get justice in the courts. Pray that his kids get the healing that they need: loving male mentoring, loving encouragement as individuals that they each have a good future no matter what dynamics they come from, and a personal relationship with Our Heavenly Father who loves them very much. May God heal this family on every level. Please pray for the Ellicotts.

Frankly, I don't blame Cal. We have a few folks who have numberous handles...it gets old.

What is it that gets old? The "handles" or what is said?

I personally don't pay much attention to "handles," just what is said!

I get the feeling that many on here would prefer people's real name and address and social security number in order to participate.
I suppose it is easier to threaten someone who says something you don't like if you know exactly who they are.
Plus they aren't even going to say anything much except maybe "coffee dates," and such.

Restaurants, maybe!

It takes some 2-3 days to get around to reading them so they can't under this plan.
Process of elimination of those who are troublesome maybe.

Actually that insults all of the real animals in the nature preserve. My apologies to the real animals. God knows all of the real animals are better than this waste of clean air.

Thank you to Cal and the citizen staff for NOT posting all of the ugly details from the police report. I'm friends with one of the neighbors and I don't think any of us has the stomach for the "rest of the story". Thank you for not subjecting us to that.

I hope our prison system is very unkind, but just in dealing with this savage beast!

Attention Sheriff Hannah: STOP RUNNING SUCH A CLEAN JAIL!! Why do you have to go by the book all of the time? Why? Let the other prisoners have this joker.

What a pathetic loser. Let's hope he gets put away for a long time so he doesn't move on and do this to another woman. I would consider this type of crime to be one for which there is no rehabiliation. If you'll beat your wife in your house with your children at home, I believe you are capable of anything. I hope his fellow inmates will help him see what the world thinks of wifebeaters. I look forward to him receiving a very long jail sentence.

Submitted by baroombrawl on Thu, 03/05/2009 - 4:19pm.

Am I to assume that today at this point you would go ahead without a trial and put him away for a very long time?

There are certainly more Nancy Graces (hang everybody, today!) in this world than I thought. Every day we let people out of jail after years and years that were innocent--now we want to do away even with those crooked trials.

People apparently get their jollies doing this! What can you hope to possibly accomplish that the law can not?

C'mon bedwetters--- log in and defend this guy. Tell us he is the victim. Tell us that if you put in a prayer group he can be rehabbed. Tell us that he has suffered enough. Muddle was right--- how can you be an innocent child and then grow into being an animal like that.

How come on a case like this we're not getting the DA but the second string? Tells us a little about priorities. You get some school attendance cheater, and there's Scooter in the limelight. Why not in this case?

would take the side of the devil just for the pleasure of an argument.

I think anyone who feels sorry for this man should be made to spend a month with him as his mate (male or female) and let's see how they feel after that small amount of time. As I have said before, I hope the biggest, burliest, meanest, lifer decided to make him his "sweetie". I am sure they would both be happy and at least a modicum of justice would be served.
