Repeat offender takes wind chimes from sheriff’s office

A Fayetteville man just released from jail Wednesday barely made it out of the jail parking lot before committing another crime, sheriff’s officials said.

As he walked by the sheriff’s office, Carlos Stafan Cannady, 44, took some wind chimes from a tree ... and kept right on walking. A 911 call went out and detectives went straight to Cannady’s home on Church Street.

After asking Cannady to come outside, a detective asked about the wind chimes.

Cannady’s reply, according to sheriff’s officials: “Oh, I’ve got them right here.”

Just minutes before Cannady had been released from jail after serving time for disorderly conduct, Fayetteville officials said. Cannady had served a 13-day sentence after he was found guilty of the charge in Fayetteville Municipal Court.

After surrendering the wind chimes, Cannady was returned to jail and booked on theft by taking. He was released on a $1,300 bond.

He's a criminal who knows full well that there are limited, if any, employment opportunities for him and those like him. Rather than suffer homelessness, why not continue on the tax-payer gravy train with 3 hots & a cot?! I've said it before, we'll see a lot more of this in the coming months.
