Mayor Logsdon: In the beginning

The followong is a letter to the citizen from Mayor Logsdon when he was campaigning. I thought It might be fun to discuss.

George Washington had the most difficult administration in the history of our country. That’s because he didn’t have a previous administration to blame his troubles on, like our current mayor.

We continue hearing complaints about these 14 new government positions, across the board salary increases, and various other problems left over from the previous administration. However, if these troubles are still around four years later, it seems to me that the problem is not with the previous administration; it’s with the current one.

As such, we must always do our best to eliminate wasteful spending in government. Your tax dollars are not a slush fund; they are a sacred trust that must be used wisely. My skills as a Certified Internal Auditor and my experience in fraud investigation and business operations will serve our community well as I analyze city government for efficiency and effectiveness. I will bring a sense of urgency to this task, and I won’t rest until every penny is accounted for.

It is true that we have more funds appropriated for highway projects than at any other time in our history.

Despite the current administration’s claim of responsibility for this, it is really due to the fact that the metro Atlanta area met clean air requirements established by the EPA. Transportation funds were then released to state and local governments.

Had our mayor negotiated in a spirit of shared responsibility with Fayette County, the $11 million we received in SPLOST funding would have been significantly higher. Once again, lack of effective leadership leaves Peachtree City with less than it could have had.

Leadership is about accepting challenges and presenting solutions. Our current administration is only interested in excuses for why our city finds itself in constant conflict with our neighbors, or for why our tax burden rises every year.

Like any good Army man, I am not interested in excuses. Neither are the citizens of Peachtree City. I am interested in results, and I will work to bring those results quickly and efficiently for the benefit of our community.

George Washington didn’t make excuses; he made decisions and stood by them. As your next mayor, I want to bring the same responsible leadership back to Peachtree City.

For those of you upset with the decision to cut the public works jobs. He campaigned on ideas like that! So you only have yourself to blame because you voted for him.
