"Miss Maynard" Celebrates 100th Birthday

Maynard Griggs Brown was feted at her 100th birthday party by several hundred of her closest family, students, and friends.

A native Fayette Countian, she was born Feb. 7, 1909 in the Shakerag portion of what is now Peachtree City. She was graduated from Fayette County High School in 1929.

After her husband died in 1947 she was left with four children to raise and with the help of family, she obtained her four-year teaching degree. She retired from teaching here in 1974,

She joined the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in 1920 and can recite the list of preachers serving that church since then.

She is also well known for her quilts and oil paintings.

This lady of all seasons received all the accolades of a very grateful family and community that can be given and deservedly so.
