"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." Thomas Jefferson

"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government." Thomas Jefferson

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." Thomas Jefferson

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government". Thomas Jefferson

The wisdom of Jefferson's quotes is in the simple, common sense ideas that they represent. Common sense that seems to have been lost in this day and age.

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." Thomas Jefferson ,

I think out of all of the quotes, the quote above may be the most significant and telling of just what Obama and the Libs in Washington truly want to do with America. They want to do away with our Democracy. They don't want to actually do away with the processes of democracy, voting, congress and such, they want to influnce them in a way that they don't function properly. They want to create a nation of people dependent on the government for everything. Those people in turn would vote to keep the Libs in charge. They wouldn't want to end their Free Lunch!

People need to wake up and realize what's going on before its too late.

I appreciate Mr. Jefferson's service to our country as President but not so much for many other things.

Tom's 4-500 living current distant relatives, born of African Slaves on his ranch-farm-plantation, is living proof that his ideas of freedom, work, guns, and otherwise did not apply to anyone except the gentile!

There wasn't even an income tax in Tom's day for him to pay to support those who would not work! Export taxes and import taxes I think paid our way mostly. Also on everyone's liquor and wine except the tens of thousands of barrels that Tom made and sold off his farm.

Tom was a Deist--not a Christian, and did not have to worry about what the New Testament said about such treatment of others.

Thomas Jefferson is still a far better president than the current one, who is quoted in his autobiography that the world is a place "..where white folks' greed runs a world in need."

Those quotes are wonderful words of wisdom and plain common sense, Fred. Thomas Jefferson was a true patriot and great president. He was also one of the most interesting of our founding fathers. The current resident, along with the last three that occupied our White House, are not even in his league.

I agree - we haven't had a decent President occupy the white house for a long time.

This fragment is when Obama is actually quoting a passage from a sermon. It's not an original quote.
