City to ‘ballpark’ cost for new MacDuff pathFri, 02/13/2009 - 4:14pm

Developer may foot bill to close other path in Cedarcroft Peachtree City officials are working with Cedarcroft developer Mike Rossetti to come up with a ballpark figure for installing a path from a tunnel under MacDuff Parkway to the retail area on the east side of the road. City Council members have indicated that if that path can be built they would agree to taking out one part of a golf cart path that cuts through Cedarcroft. That section of path has led to complaints about traffic at all hours of the night since it leads to the 24-hour Walmart, fast golf cart drivers and general unruliness such as cursing around young children. That path also sits very close to several homes in Cedarcroft, and one neighbor had a reckless golf cart driven right through their garage door. Rossetti has said he might be willing to build the new path in order to get rid of the problematic path. But he balked last week during a council discussion as City Engineer David Borkowski pegged the potential cost at $150,000 to build the path. Rossetti said he thought that would be “a little high” but Borkowski noted that part of the issue is the dramatic slope up from the tunnel. City Manager Bernie McMullen said the path would need to comply with requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Rossetti contended that the section of path causing problems for Cedarcroft residents is because of its heavy use despite the fact that it wasn’t intended to be a main thoroughfare. Council withheld a vote on spending $14,000 to design the path to wait and see what a new estimate comes back in at. That way Rossetti can determine if he wants to pursue that project or not. Rossetti said he hoped to spend about $20,000 to $30,000 on the path connection project. login to post comments |
