Another Obama Lie

D'oh! Caterpillar CEO Contradicts President on Whether Stimulus Will Allow Him to Re-Hire Laid Off Workers

EAST PEORIA, ILL. -- President Obama today repeated the claim we asked about yesterday at the press briefing that Jim Owens, the CEO of Caterpillar, Inc., "said that if Congress passes our plan, this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off."

Caterpillar announced 22,000 layoffs last month.

But after the president left the event, Owens said the exact opposite.

Here's the statement Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar, Jim Owens released yesterday:

"As I indicated yesterday, the President and I fundamentally agree that the U.S. stimulus package will be beneficial to the U.S. economy and should spur demand for the types of products made by Caterpillar," Owens says in the statement. "The passage of significant stimulus packages in the United States and abroad would help move the global economy toward a recovery, and if these packages are enacted quickly, they could stimulate demand for our products that would likely, over time, provide Caterpillar the opportunity to recall employees who have been laid off during this downturn. We know this won't happen overnight, but I am confident that swift passage of the stimulus will lay the important groundwork to rebuild our workforce."

You just can't seem to get anything right can you?

....You poor, pathetic, ignorant, misguided soul.

The fact of the matter is, is that Obama lied when he stated that the CEO of Caterpillar told him the company WILL rehire some laid-off workers if the stimulus bill passes.

In your own quote, he states that "if these packages are enacted quickly, they COULD (not would) stimulate demand for our products that would LIKELY (not definitely), over time, provide Caterpillar the OPPORTUNITY to recall employees who have been laid off during this downturn."

The CEO's statement is a far cry from Obama's lie that the CEO would rehire employees if the stimulus bill passes. He flat out lied to the American people to garner support for the bill. Unfortunately, his lie worked.
