Senoia DDA wants commercial vehicle ordinance

Senoia Downtown Development Authority (DDA) voted unanimously Feb. 10 to recommend that the city council establish an ordinance to address commercial vehicles parking on Main Street. Board members said they will review sample ordinances before presenting a recommendation to the council.

Authority board members prior to the vote discussed a number of issues pertaining to commercial vehicles being parked in the shopping district on Main Street and the impact on customers wanting to shop in the area. Among those were the amount of time taken for vehicles to load and unload, the factors involved in timed parking in designated areas for commercial vehicles, ideas on having business employees park off Main Street and past reactions by some employees.

DDA Chairman Suzanne Helfman said DDA had previously recommended to the city council that issues of the loading and unloading of commercial vehicles be addressed but that no action had been forthcoming.

Board members said they would survey sample ordinances and arrange a time to present the ordinance recommendation to the city council.

Also at the Feb. 10 meeting, Maguireā€™s Family & Friends co-owner Wendy Maguire was recommended unanimously to serve on the board to fill the unexpired term of John Barrow. Her name will be submitted to the city council for approval.
