Arrest made in F'ville southside Kroger robbery

***Update*** Fayetteville Police have arrested Zaxby's employee Taurean Wayne Johnson and issued warrants for two others in the Monday robbery of a Zaxby's employee in the Kroger parking lot.

Warrants have been issued for Demartez Horesco Patterson, also a Zaxby's employee, and other man, Jacgues Issac Anthony.

A Monday morning robbery in the parking lot at the Kroger grocery store on Ga. Highway 85 South had Fayetteville Police and Fayette County sheriff’s deputies looking for a man driving a gold Ford Explorer.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. when a Zaxby’s employee was crossing the Kroger parking lot to make a deposit at the Bank of Georgia inside the store, said Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw.

A man was described only as a black male approached the woman, grabbed the deposit money and knocked her to the ground, Crawshaw said. The man was subsequently seen entering a gold Explorer.

Crawshaw said there is no other current description of the assailant.

The woman was ambulatory and verbal but was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital for evaluation, he said.

Crime is growing like Kudzu!

Get on their butts to catch or prevent more!

Or do you work there?

Shame on you "shadowalker" this isn't about race, color, or what county these people are from. The sad reality is that crime is creeping its way into everybody's lives. What we should be concerned about is how to realistically prevent crimes in our community & not wasing time (and key strokes) on who's to blame. I don't know if you have children, but I do, and I can assure you I wouldn't want my daughter to be subjected to crime nor racial ignorance. I pray that this woman that was robbed is okay and that we as a community can put racial diffrences asside to make this county safer for not only us but our children & their children.

You are sooooo naive. Crime is indeed creeping it's way into everyone's lives and it's almost always seems to be the same "folks" doing the creeping. I feel sorry for your children because you yourself are subjecting them to racial ignorance. They are going to be subjected to crime sooner or later and you are doing absolutely NOTHING to prepare them.

Putting racial differences aside and being blind to reality are two entirely different things. Wake up and smell the roses before you sacrifice one of your children on the alter of politically correct stupidity.

People like you are doing nothing but putting out the "Welcome" mat for the thugs and criminals in Clayton County.

There are so few blacks in the banking failures that one is a rarity!

Want a list of the loan planners for credit cards? Color pictures?

See any blacks much testifying in congres from the Treasury, Securities and Excahnge Commission?

It is just a matter of need and opportunity isn't it?

Ignorance is also rampant in both cases.

But fair enough. Pick your risk: you avoid the SEC senior managers that you encounter in Fayette County and I'll avoid the young black males.

... You might re-visit some of the comments made on The Citizen in reaction to "white collar crimes" committed by whites. You'd find an amazingly consistent and decidedly vocal disgust for causing harm to others.

Ahhhhh, It looks like the liberals & racists have weighed in! Both of you should stay on topic in the thread if you even remotely expect people to not ridicule your posts.

You can continue your practice of pointing to exceptions to try and justify the monumental misdeeds of any particular ethic or geographic segment of our society or you can admit reality and try to be part of the solution. Attacking someone because they have made note of that reality is racism, pure & simple.

Additionally Diva, your childish and vulgar name calling toward another blogger here defines the intellectual level of your racism. Racist attacks in response to comments on the numerous misdeeds of an ethic group may have worked in the past but only serve now to define the gross nature of the attacker.

While I have no tolerance of criminals of any race or ethnic background, I must still look at percentages to determine what my risks are. As a Fayette businessman, well... others have defined that risk here in this thread. In respone to that threat, EVERYONE is our office is packing (and licensed). If I am forced into it by an armed robbery attempt or other such criminal activity, I will of course modify those percentages (however so slightly).

Have a nice day!_______________________________________________________________

Or is it an overwhelming number of incidents involving black males?

Nobody has said -- nor should they say -- that there is anything inheriantly wrong with any particular race. Nor should any reasonable person justify or underplay the damange done by institutionalized racism; especially when looking at how black families were broken up, lack of opportunities, etc.

I share your hope that we can put aside racial differences -- and just as whites have had to change certain ugly behaviors and beliefs to help make that happen, so too must the bruthas lay off the violent crime. They just gotta.

I know you're not saying that my 'color' means that I am part of the criminal element in Fayette County! What is drawing 'drug' dealers to Fayette - is Fayette 'users' who pay them. What is drawing criminals to Fayette County is a lack of knowledge how to help our law enforcement officials by identifying the criminal element (black, white, yellow, red, brown) We’re changing - and it takes more than just carrying a weapon. No 'thuggish' looking person should feel comfortable coming to the Avenues or the Pavilion. Believe me, no 'thuggish' looking person goes 'un-noticed' in Beverly Hills. With modern technology - our cell phones/cameras - we can make the criminal element in Fayette feel most uncomfortable. I applaud the law-enforcement that I see in my shopping center on a regular patrol. One of the communities that garners high property taxes in Fayette County is Country Lakes - a 'predominately black' community. Stop your rhetoric based on lack of knowledge.

This is a serious question: When does racial profiling stop and a description of the suspect begin? As a white man, I don't care if the description of a suspect is "white male" if that's what the witness saw, criminals should be in jail no matter what color they are. I'm not in favor of freeing all white suspects because they look like me. I think it is safe to assume that if your house was broken into, and you found out that it was a black man that did it you would want him caught and punished even though he is the same color as you.

I have to echo the same question that was posted earlier, Why was she on foot with this deposit? Sounds to me, like a former or present employee might know when they make the daily drop. The whole story sounds fishy to me.

Hard to believe that Kroger/other merchants in the area haven't installed video cameras in the parking lot as well also.

Submitted by my2centsfwiw on Tue, 02/10/2009 - 6:59am.

Did you read the response I wrote, HOURS before you posted, that she was in her car and attacked as she got out of it?

But the part about someone knowing about the daily deposit being made... yeah, that makes sense.

There are some merchants with video cameras in the parking lot... I think the banks and maybe the drugstores? Not sure exactly.

Sorry, but this will stop when the majority of the headlines read "Woman released without charges after 3 suspects and a gold SUV were shot full of holes outside F'ville southside Kroger" I really don't care what color they were, or what run-down county they came from.

Why is this woman on foot carrying the cash drop for the restaruant, across hwy 85 to the bank inside Kroger. Seems to me not very smart considering the world we live in. Lets not help these criminals fleeceing our community by providing them with easy marks. Seems to me the manager of Zaxbys needs to be responsible for the cash drop, and not the employees. From what I heard, she was from the Zaxby's on the north side, and was attacked as she got out of her car.

I was one of the witnesses, i was in my car getting ready to back out when i saw the passenger exit the gold suv and run over and rob the girl i tried to follow them to get there tag number but they ran the red light so i went over to the police that were already pulling up ( within 4 mins of robbery ) and gave my information to him. It was 2 maybe 3 black male's in the early 20's, and if i wasnt disabled and able to run i would of got him before he got in the suv and cracked his skull in with my cane.

I'm from Cali, vato. Wouldn't know the Rebel Yell unless Billy Idol was singing. One doesn't need to be predisposed towards anything to be tired of the bruthas. All one need do is pay attention.

I happen to require the labor of about 80 or so persons at what can only be considered the lowest rung of any measure of skill sets. The job pays $7/hour. The temp agency sends us (legal) women from Guatamala and black men from Atlanta and Clayton County. The black guys complain and typically quit very quickly. Make of it what you will. I mention this only to emphasize that, whatever my opinions are, they're shaped by actual hands-on experience with persons who accept or decline opportunities.

When an American-born and educated person reduces themself to being in a peer group with newly-arrived, unskilled immigrants with neither education nor language skills and they wash out, it says much about that person or even group of persons to me.

I was working all day today and didn't hear anything about a man being killed at the park.

You sure about that?

Submitted by walkman on Fri, 03/06/2009 - 6:19pm.

It's true!! I'm one of the two persons that found the McCurry Park apparent suicide victim lying under the swing just minutes after hearing the gunshot. The lady that was beside me called 911 and we described his condition to the 911 operator. I haven't been back to the park since then after having walked there for a year or more. It's pretty unsettling.

I saw the cops and ambulance there as I drove home. So something happened. Just not sure what.

Submitted by PeskyGirl on Tue, 02/10/2009 - 12:21am.

I was at McCurry Park walking my dog about 5:30pm on the path that goes from the parking lot across the offices towards the gated entrance on McDonough Road. A gentleman walking with his wife and very young son on the same path told me that a man had committed suicide about an hour and a half earlier on that spot. He said the man just sat down on the swing that is located off that path, just about 50 feet from McDonough Road, and shot himself. What a terrible tragedy. I hope kids were not around to witness such horror. The park was very busy while I was there, many families with small children playing around, enjoying the nice weather...

In todays world, it's never really safe. You always have to keep your eyes and ears open. Theft of purses and wallets is not new to the area, been happening for years. You mentioned McCurry Park... Have not heard anything about that. Anyone else have any news? Live right around the corner from there and was home all day. Didn't see or hear anything or the chopper up in the air. Oh yeah, S LINDSEY... if you are who I think you are, so VERY glad we are neighbors... Glock, S&W & all the rest...

They say there is no further description? Funny, because as an employee of one of the area businesses, I was able to call and get more of a description than was given by the police spokesperson. Not that it helps much. Those guys (and yes, we were told that there were 2 males, a driver and the passenger, the passenger being the one that actually attacked the woman) are long gone, probably back to Clayton County.

Wow Citizen only 4 hours and 16 minutes after the robbery! There is a man at large and the Citizen can't get to the update desk for over four hours to report it. Maybe he is still cruising around the county is his gold Explorer and we can help police catch him. Way to keep the community informed in a timely manner!

My purse was stolen last week in the Ingle's grocery store parking lot around the corner from this store. I was told by several individuals while applying for my police report, replacement drivers license, cell phone, etc. that this is a common occurrence in grocery store parking lots. Luckily, I was not assaulted, just have a lot of aggravation to cancel check, credit cards, and replace my phone. So ladies, watch those purses while loading those grocery bags! Or better yet, get a bag boy or girl to carry out those bags for you.

The flood of postings that here comes the Riverdale gangs. It is true but I'm not sure what the answer is. I have kids and I always tell them to either not go there at all or be very careful of your surroundings. The more you think about it, these kinds of things are starting to happen more and more in PTC now a days. It is sad, but true, but it is getting to where you can almost say, "you are living in Georgia, where are you going to run?"
