Fairburn brush fire

Fire crews, including some from Fayette County agencies, fought a large brush fire in Fairburn just north of Milam Road.

The fire extended from Ga. Highway 74 eastward along the large power transmission line easement. Flames flickered close to several homes but fire crews were able to save the structures.

Some of the homes had melted siding, a side effect of the fire's heat.

Because of the fire's location, northbound lanes on Hwy. 74 were blocked for over an hour. At one point traffic was backed up from Milam Road all the way to Kirkley Road.

Agencies assisting Fairburn's fire department included Peachtree City, Fayette County, Fayetteville, Palmetto and others along with the Georgia Forestry Unit.
