Suspects ditched car off Redwine Road near church

A burglary in progress call led Fayette sheriff's deputies to quickly arrest two suspects early this afternoon.

One of the suspects got away on foot briefly but was found within minutes, according to radio traffic broadcast during the incident.

The attempted burglary was reported at a residence on Redwine Road just south of Ebenezer Church and Brown roads shortly after 1 p.m. The caller advised that a loud banging noise was heard as the suspects possibly attempted to break into the residence and the suspects were described as two black males in a silver passenger car.

Minutes later one of the responding deputies informed dispatchers that she was pulling over that vehicle when one of the suspects ran on foot toward the wooded area near the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.

Soon after one deputy alerted radio that he had one of the suspects in custody at the church.

A brief manhunt ensued for the second suspect before he too was apprehended nearby, a deputy reported.

I read recently that the best deterrent to burglars etc. is having a dog or dogs. They hear and smell problems before we humans do. I will agree with that.

Many years ago I was still awake (2AM)ish and my dogs who I locked on my porch every night starting barking and I mean having a hiss fit. I knew by their aggressive barking there was something or someone out there. I let all 3 of them off the porch and they all took off running down the driveway. It wasn't too long and I heard a car door slam and a car took off..my dogs chased who ever it was all the way down there(400 feet), howling all the way...so I knew it was someone with criminal intent. My dogs were not aggressive dogs but who knows what they would have done if they would have got a hold of that/those creeps. If not for those dogs who knows what could have happened. Of course we too also have a few guns but at least I didn't have to use one.

Be aware of what is going on around you and your property. Notice if you see the same cars, faces, who are strangers in the neighbor hood. The day before this episode, my neighbor was getting a new fence put up. I noticed a couple of the people putting up that fence paying more attention to my property than they were the fence...I still to this day think it was them..not saying at all it was the same people, but sure was timely. This happened many years ago, as all those dogs are in doggy heaven now. We miss them, but still have a dog and always will. Yep, I'll take a dog any day over a gun. At least most dogs will give you a warning, guns can't do that.

The neighbor who called the SO, you are an awesome neighbor..We all thank you. Also a huge THANK YOU to the Deputy's...you too are also awesome...

Now, Carbon, people like my parents that own guns do not put their faith in the weapon. They do not idolize or worship their firearms. They don't even hunt. In fact, most people I know that own firearms do so for protection in the unlikely event that they might need to protect themselves. I know that my mother hopes that she NEVER has to fire her handgun. She also hopes that she NEVER has to be in the situation to make that decision.

As for me, I sold my handgun when my daughter was born. It was a personal decision my husband and I made. A recent situation has led me to consider purchasing a firearm again, for protection. My hesitation is resultant from knowing the character of my 6 year old son and knowing that he is nosy, he gets into things he shouldn't (that boy is always in trouble), and he likes to take things apart. This is why I have not made the purchase and am considering other options for protection. However, that is a personal decision and I wouldn't dream of forcing my decision on others. Those who own guns (legally) have that right and have made that decision for themselves.

I just wanted to rebut the notion that gun owners are in some way cult-like or have faith only in their weapon.

Have a good day, Carbon. It's going to be gorgeous today! Smiling

No problem. As always, if the shoes fit, put the wig on too.

Wow, Carbon. And here I was thinking that we were having a friendly difference of opinion. Perhaps you misunderstood the tone of my post.

I can't wait until tomorrow, maybe you'll be a little more lovable than you were today.

You definitely misunderstood the tone of my posts. That is a problem I have with text only communication. Your post was sincere and understanding, and meant to enlighten me about your parents and those that keep a gun around in case they need it. I understand that, and thank you for reminding me. I was referring to the many posts (not all as I stated, my error) about bang bang banging your way to a solution.

Before suggesting that the caller should have shot the burglars, think about who he or she might be. What if she was a 12 year old innocent girl with no knowledge of how to use a gun? She'd probably be too scared to even think about finding a gun, if she even had one in her house. I doubt any of you have been in a situation where you're home alone and two random guys decide to bust open your door. Think before you speak.

Let me see how do I approach this.. None of us ever said anything about a 12 year old??? Where did that come from.. I think we were all speaking for ourselves..
If you wish to give up your home and follow the California rule.. then by all means RUN.. RUN HARD AND FAR.. but for the most part I believe I can speak for a good many here.. We are not going anywhere.. these thugs want to break into our home's better be ready to pay the ultimate price....IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET POPPED DON'T STOP..

It would be nice if there would be a release of the name and home address of these two perp's. Seems like they were headed for Peachtree City when caught. I am curious to see if that is where they call home (Peachtree City) or if they came from elsewhere to do their bad deed.

If someone is breaking into my home, how do I know they're after my TV, my GPS, me or my daughter???

Sorry, but I'm taking no chances. If I'm around and they come into my home by force, they leave toes first !!

they react! Fayette County people can pack all the guns we want-but the criminals will still come here as long as they need money to buy drugs! Stop them just like we are doing-with watchful eyes, good cops, strong laws, and a strong and just court system! The problem: when the criminals get out of jail, usually, not always, but usually they go back to the same place they came from-a life of drugs and violence. ONLY JESUS CAN CHANGE A CRIMINAL'S HEART! He changed the one beside Him that day He hung on the cross 2,000 years ago: 1 out of 2 ain't bad!

You are too funny!

You sound like my dad when I was younger. He used to greet my dates at the door with Bertha - his 13 inch sawed off riffle. He used to tell them that he would introduce them to Jesus if I was home one minute past ll:00. He said there was nothing to do that late at night but have sex or get into trouble so there was no need in my being out that late. Smiling

And no, my dad's not the "bubba type". He's a decorated sharpshooter veteran that believes in protecting his country and family.

Sounds like a guy I could admire.. I too was trained as a sniper.. Was one for 12 years..
I don't coddle criminals.. they serve but one purpose to absorb impacts.. They have a choice.. get a job or take your chance..

Yeah, I admire him too. My dad's my hero and my buddy. I'm almost 40 years old and he still calls me his little girl. There's something nice about knowing that no matter what happens in life ... there's someone looking out for you.

The strict discipline of my parents was pretty frustrating growing up. But, I'm better for it, tougher for it.

I have the utmost respect for all you veterans. Thank you for what you do and for doing it for the rest of us.

Just where are those jobs you want them to get? Have you got one to give them?

Newhaven is a nice neighborhood and this should serve as a wake-up call to all that no one is immmune to crime, no matter where they live. Months ago I wrote that we would soon see an increase in burglaries and home invasions. I hate being right all the time (because it means things are getting worse), but let's face it, it was only a matter of time before these goons became more brazen.

It's starting to get pretty freakin' real people. Be prepared to defend your property and protect your family. I think if enough of these criminals leave in bodybags instead of handcuffs they might think twice before attacking and robbing Fayette citizens.

Submitted by mthom5436 on Fri, 02/06/2009 - 10:39am.

I believe in owning guns to protect my family and myself but I'm not going to shoot somebody over my GPS system. I don't own anything worth shooting over. If somebody wants it that bad they can have it. Just don't try to enter my home while I'm there.

Until the criminals leave in bodybags they will keep coming back to Fayette County. They see us as an easy target.

Agree with S Lindsey on the coroner.

I am so glad that they got these guys...good work...unfortunately this type of crime is inching its way further South and it is disappointing. We no longer can keep our doors unlocked and live in utopia like we once were so blessed. Keep up the good work and keep the thugs out of our county!
