All the so called speedtraps

I read all of the complaints about the Fayetteville Police writing speeding tickets and how someone needs to stop this anarchy. About how they are cheating the public and just taking our money.

Here's a crazy idea. When you drive on a road, take a second to look at all the speed limit signs posted on the side of it. Then, look down at your speedometer. They should be close to each other. Paying attention to our driving makes the roads safer. Stop blaming the police for doing their jobs. Don't speed and you won't have to worry about them.

If you do like to speed or just don't pay attention to your driving, then you deserve the ticket.

I've got to agree with GaDawg. I am so tired of people whining about speed enforcement.

I think the PTC Police could quickly close the city's budget shortfall by setting up a few more "enforcement zones" along Highway 74. On the new section south of Highway 54, drivers are routinely going 70 mph in a 45 mph zone. I don't care if the old speed limit on that section was 55 mph. It's 45 mph now. Get used to it or be ready to pay through the nose. Quit blaming GADOT or the Police for your irresponsibility.

People please slow down!

Plain and simple its a revenue generator for PTC. How in gods name do you go from 55mph on a packed 2 lane to 45mph on a wide open 6 lane?

And like others have said, it's the state DOT. Also, the speed limit drops below 55 coming south before you get to 54.

Also, just slow down. How much longer could it take you to negotiate that stretch of road going 10 MPH slower?

The cops don't set the speed limit, they also can't set the lights. It is the state DOT that is responsible for those things.

it is a speed trap..if you are on the 2 lane at 55mph to a 45 on at 6 lane,it is a no brainer. They know the 1st thing you are going to do when you get out of the congestion, is speed up.

Some of these people say they are tired of people complaining...we are tired of being given tickets by too many police, trying to justify themselves by writing bogus tickets.

I went to traffic court in Tyrone and found the majority of us hard liners, fighting our tickets, were middle aged women...and pretty much the same police person wrote all the tickets. Strange, all these women who didn't know each other were there with the same police person, all saying they didn't do it.

The judge in Tyrone even put a preacher in jail! Same deal, he stood up for himself, went to court, thought it was going to be an honest deal, and then judge found him guilty. He refused to pay because he wasn't guilty! They put him in jail! She only let him out on a Friday because, honest to God, she went to his church and knew he was preaching that weekend!

There is something very wrong when public servants flex their authority like this. The idea is to make sure you never buck the system again. There is going to be a backlash and some township is going to have to pay the big bucks.

My teenager, was a passenger in a car last weekend. I had warned them both about how abusive some police can be. One fell in behind them, they turned left, he turned left, the kids turned right, so did he. They stopped at a service station to go to the bathroom, he not only stopped, he came into the bathroom after them! He scared them so bad, my child said, 'Mom, I couldn't even pee...and I had to!" That is just plain wrong. You are sending the wrong message to the kids...one that you are not their friends...but their enemies! How sad for our kids.

Don't make me laugh! Georgia like just about every state has laws on the books which mandates the speed a vehicle can travel under specific conditions. In the case you are whining about, the state law dictates that a road (which interconnects with other roads)can have a speed of 45 upon entering a community (of a certain size) limits.

It does no matter if it is a 2 lane road or 6 lane road, there still is cross traffic, cyclists, pedestrians, etc. and the last thing the we all need is some lead foot who does not have proper control of their vehicle for the area.

Personally, I wish more police officers would be out there giving those who not only have no regard for their life but the life of others some serious tickets!

riding my bike! Smiling

Oh, I make darn sure that I drive at or slightly below the speed limit when I go through Tyrone.

Back in college, when I was a "Serious Cyclist," and training for an event, I passed a cop on my Motobecane. At the next stop sign, he pulled up next to me, rolled down his window, and reminded me the speed limits applied to cyclists as well.

Be careful out there!
