Alcohol Permits

Whats the deal with alcohol permits? I moved away for awhile and when I came back I had to get this stupid alcohol permit to wait tables. Why? What is the point? From what I can tell its just a creative way for the city to generate revenue.

It's just to prove your age and that you know the law. Easy to get.

The police department doesn't do anything to test that a person knows the acohol laws. I can't remember for sure, but I do not think they even gave me a pamplet on how to check IDs and what to look for.

Mthom, I knew that the place of business has to have a permit, and the servers have to be "of age" to serve alcohol, but I never knew that they had to get permits too. Sounds kinda redundant to me. As you said, it's probably a revenue generator.

To get a permit you have go down to the police department pay and pay them $25.00. They take your finger prints. run a back ground check and a week later you can pick up your permit. AS long as you haven't had a drug or alcohol related offense in the last 3 or 5 years.
