WSB TV: "The Sluts of Jonesboro"

sniffles5's picture

I predict the situational outrage on this board will reach new highs very shortly after WSB airs the controversial "Sluts of Jonesboro" fracas tonight from Jonesboro High.

You KNOW you want to watch it, and then pass judgement

I watched the video and didn't think it was so bad. There is a puritanical element in our society which frowns upon all dancing, and media like WSB like to stir up controversy to up their ratings. The dancers got a lot of exercise out of what they did, and the crowd seemed entertained.

I agree that the main function of our schools is to train students in the three R's and to teach them English, science, etc. But the students' minds are inside bodies that need exercise too, to stay healthy. (Lots of people watch Dancing with the Stars on TV, and they enjoy it.)

If you didn't care for the students' dance, get over it!

Did you watch the whole video? I agreed with you until I got to the part where they started giving guys lap dances. At one point the girls actually had their heads in the guys laps! Thats not dancing. And just because you saw it on TV doesn't make it appropriate or excusable.

However, is it right to blame the girls in this situation. Where was the adult supervision? Was it even their idea or were they doing what their coach told them to do? Did any of thier parents take the time to watch a practice? YOu don't just put a sycronized dance together in an hour. How did this make it to production unnoticed? Unless these girls went rogue and put this dance together on their own with out permission I don't understand why they are being punished. This was the schools fault not theirs. Find a new coach, and let the girls move on.

for that dance routine and are they in training for the Pink Pony? What were those responsible for this dance team thinking!

"Sluts" is not right, in any forum. How these children performed in the routine may have been lewd or overtly sexual, but to call them "sluts" is a little too much. If I were a parent of one of these girls, it would hurt me very much if I were to read this. Have a heart...or is that too much for you?

If you had taken the time to click the link I provided, you would have noticed right away that WSB is reporting that THE GIRLS THEMSELVES dubbed themselves "The Sluts of Jonesboro".

I report, you deride.

In the article is this: "A video showing the dance, titled "The Sluts of Jonesboro," had also been posted on YouTube, but has since been removed from the web site."

So, looks to me like whoever posted the YouTube video labeled it as that. Probably one of the kids in the audience with a cellphone.

from where someone posted the video and entitled it the "Sluts of Jonesboro". I could post a video of anyone I had taken video of and entitle it anything I wanted to - that does not mean that is what those young women chose to call themselves.

So "report", don't contort! (How 'bout that one?)

If most of that isn't fake sexual moves then I don't understand what is!
Bad for 14-15-16-17 year olds to do.
I am flabbergasted also that Mothers (no Daddys available) are saying it was the school's fault!
Where did they think their daughter was for the practrices---didn't care?

"Will Strip for Accreditation"
How typically slutty, trashy, filthy (add your favorite adjective here)

In this day and age many of those typically slutty, trashy, filthy types start making babies around age 16-17.

Gotta wonder what sort of horrendous parenting these kids grew up with.

Any school sponsored group has to have a faculty member as sponsor. Serious lack of judgment on the sponsor's part, but let's remember that these are kids we're talking about. The music videos are full of this kind of (better choreographed) dancing and the girls were just trying to imitate that. The adults associated with the dance team should have stopped the girls before it got to a high school game.

BUT...don't crucify the girls for being young and stupid. They will grow up. Would you like what you did at their age to be all over the internet to be picked apart? And please don't slam their physical appearance - between TV and movie stars who look like toothpicks, teen girls today have it rough enough body image-wise without us chiming in.

** FOLLOW-UP** Coach removed as team adviser according to AJC. Hopefully on probation the rest of the year also...oh, wait, Clayton County's desperate for teachers still. Which DOES explain a lot about this situation.

. .for the update! This is disgraceful. What is needed now is for a group of female leaders in the community and young people who perform with dignity (from the colleges?) to go in and discuss 'self-esteem' with these young girls. There is a fine line between 'sex appeal' and slut!

when they lost accreditation over the BOE problems. They lost students, and then teachers, and then a huge chunk of grant money. I have a daughter in the 10th grade there and feel trapped by the situation; but that has nothing to do with the poor judgement of this dance coach. As usual, the system seems to always have to REACT to these things instead of being proactive and preventing them.

of the dance team? Okay, the girls are banned for the rest of the year from "doing their stuff". Did they do this routine on their own, or was it the one that they practiced with their coach?

Do they even HAVE a coach?

I think you’re doing the girls a great favor by referring to them as a “dance team”. Isn’t there supposed to be some synchronization in a dance team routine?

This brings up soooo many questions .....

When did they start to let the fat dumpy girls be cheerleaders?

That was very sad.
