ptc job cuts

now most of you dont know that the city does not even pay their employees enough to live in the city they work so hard to keep up.My husband is part of the landscape dept. that will be replaced if voted by the city council. It was clear to me last night at the meeting that the mayor and council members did not care to hear about the results of the surveys handed out to the wonderful citizens that pay their salaries, they were willing to make the decision right then to go ahead with the job cuts with out any regards to the quality of service you would receive from the out sourcing. My husband does way more than just plant shrubs and prune trees. His job is the main source of income and insurance for our family with three small children. What does the mayor recommend we do when he lets the employees go and my husband cant find another job comparable to what he was making. That leaves us struggling to pay bills, uable to afford health care, we would for sure lose our home to foreclosure. This doesnt just affect our family. The landscape crew is a big family we all know each other, our kids play together it would affect them in the very same way. They would lose everything just like us. So I urge all citizens to help us come up with another way for the city to fix the budget crisis other than putting hard working men and their families out of a job and a home. I wish you all could have seen the digust on the mayors face when this issue was tabled to allow time to hear from the Citizens of Peachtree City. Wouldnt we all like to know where the money went to begin with??????????????? We need your support thanks to all that will help

I agree that the 23 job cut is hard. But asking all employees to take a 25% pay cut is just as hard. either way families will be affected, either the 23 or the entire city. I mean losing almost 1000 dollars a month in pay would be devastating not only to those families, but also to the city. Foreclosures would go through the roof, less money would be spent for revenue and you may actually have people look to other professions. I know if my husband took a 25% pay cut he'd make less then he did when he started and we would lose our house as well. We'd be lucky to get an apartment rented to us. We have lived under our means for 5 years now and to suddenly be threatened with losing everything after we did everything right is scary. It is not the city employees faults that the mayor and city manager mishandled and underestimated what this recession would do to the city. I mean didn't they give pay increases to the mayor and city council and manger just a few years back? The mayor wanted to double his salary. The city needs to look at what jobs are truly disposable, or should I say what positions. If the city manager truly makes 297,000 per year then maybe he should take at least a 50% pay cut. It's not big deal for a lot of the city council or mayor because this isn't their full time job. The money they make is just added to their income.

all i want to say is that if you cut any salary then you should should cut everyone's salary. i know times are tough but what i mean by cutting all salaries is that i know for a fact that firefighters in ptc make darn good money for only working one out of three days. i would be willing to bet that they are some of the best paid in the city, and granted they do earn it at times but for no more than they do they need to take pay cuts if all others are made to. and for those that say well if you cut my salary i'll lose this and that well then maybe people should not live outside of their means. i just think that the firefighters are overpaid already; it's not that i don't appreciate what they do but this department i feel is very overpaid and should definetly be cut. sorry for being honest but the mayor and council need to really look at those salaries and change some things. i had a ff/paramedic tell me that he felt like he was stealing from the city one time because he made such good money for not doing that much. please mayor and council take a look at the fire dept. and their salaries and you will see what i'm talking about.
