Total inventory blowout. Entire store on sale. Nothing held back. The handwriting was on the wall at World Market store at Fayette Pavilion. The store will be closing though no date has been announced.

Local management at the specialty retailer was unable to comment on the issue, but a press release on the World Market website told the tale.

The company said it will close 26 stores and exit eight media markets, though a time frame for the closures was not given. Upon completion of its plan to rationalize operations, Cost Plus will operate 270 stores in 98 markets covering 30 states, according to a company press release.

"Closing under-performing stores allows Cost Plus to rationalize its operations and media markets in this challenging economic environment, and to take full advantage of better growth opportunities when the retail climate improves," said company President and CEO Barry Feld in a Jan. 9 statement.

Also on the chopping block is the store in Lithonia. The company’s five other store’s were not included in the closure report.

World Market OUT, Starship Enterprise IN! My trekking up Tara Blvd. or over to Old National days are OVER! Yes! Over to the one in Thomas Crossroads or up 85 to Fayetteville - quicker so I can get my purchases back home FAST!
What?! Oh, sorry, I guess I was day-dreaming... Smiling

We were eating lunch at the Blimpie's at the Pavilion a couple of days ago and the Manager told us he was closing the store. The owner of the building was raising the rent and he couldn't afford to pay it. Hopefully they will still be there on Monday..our usual day for eating lunch there.
