The reduction in fossil fuel consumption has been replaced, particle for particle, with oral methane from the likes of Mr. counterfeit "fred" that's my real name garvin. The sour grapes would make a great lot of MD 20/20. I chuckle every time I pass a Palin/McCain sticker. "Fred" and the gang will cling to the memory of what could have been until they lose their next election for offering nothing but out of touch, unproven dogma and gutter politics. Suits me fine. I might get a Palin sticker myself; best thing to happen to America in a while....like smelling salts to a semi-conscious boxer.

There has been a decrease in fossil fuel usage. The high cost of oil created by wall street traders trading on fuel futures caused the decrease fossil fuel usage. And, here's how that works:

When oil starts trading at $50/bl things are OK.
Then oil prices begin to start skyrocketing as futures prices increase. The companies that have to purchase much of this fuel (Exxon, Mobil, BP etc) have to buy it at higher prices.
Now, oil futures have dropped. The companies that purchased this oil are not going to discount it, as they would lose massive amounts of money. They are going to hold on to it, use it, or sell it at cost.
As the people drove less, or bought more efficient cars to compensate, the demand decreased, supply increased, and prices dropped. We are still using less oil/fuel than a couple of other well known countries.

So, don't blame the politics. Blame the futures traders that were attempting to inflate the 401K's of teachers, firefighters, and everyday Joes.

they are just in severe denial, with an equally severe case of myopia. It is a sad day when a unit can't have a well deserved congratulation accepted, especially on an issue where their performance has been so dismal, such as the environment. I must confess to my own sins against the environment: I used a pollution spewing chain saw to cut firewood rather than a clean and green hand saw. I am in therapy about it now.
