A College Park woman was arrested the morning of Dec. 29 after deputies said she ran over her husband with her car in the parking lot of New Hope Baptist Church, a sheriff’s official said. Thomas Bell, an employee of the church and just out of the hospital for shoulder surgery, was seriously injured and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to warrants for his wife’s arrest. Cassandra Bell, 47, of Dot Drive, College Park was charged with one felony count of aggravated assault and reckless driving, the official said. The warrant for Mrs. Bell’s arrest states that she intentionally ran over her husband with her 1996 Honda Accord around 8 a.m. The reason for Mrs. Bell’s anger was a conclusion she leapt to, officials said. Mr. Bell underwent shoulder surgery two days before the incident, and Mrs. Bell felt that it was too early for him to return to work, said Lt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Mrs. Bell thought her husband was returning to work so quickly after the surgery so he could meet up with a purported girlfriend, McCastle said. When the first deputy arrived on the scene, Mrs. Bell was getting out of her husband’s vehicle, which she had moved in an attempt to cover up the skid marks from the attack, McCastle said. At that moment Mr. Bell was still on the ground immediately after the attack, positioned between the two vehicles, McCastle said. A Fayette County Magistrate set Mrs. Bell’s bond at $20,000 and ordered her to completely avoid contact with her husband while she awaits disposition of the case, according to court documents. login to post comments |
