Teachers Giving Back Raises

Well, once again we have been led astray by the BoE. We were sold a bill of goods regarding SPLOST, and are now asking for our overworked, underpaid, highly skilled teachers to give back their meager 2.5% raise. Perhaps our Board has forgotten what it feels like to live on a salary that is riduculously low, particularly given the educational credentials and professionalism of our teachers.

Its time that the citizens of this county stand up to the Board, and show them that there are better ways to fund our school system without taking from our already underpaid teachers.

People have stepped forward in the last election n ran against Smola and Smith.
What did you do?

You voted them both back in!

They, along with Wright, have kept a strangle holt on the other 2 on the BOE,
who now sit there powerless, 2 good people,
with educational backgrounds,

while
Smola has ...NONE...!
Wright has ...NONE...!

and Smith?

..was... a teacher,

who is married to a developer, and doesn't teach any more.

Later, after Smith n Smola were voted in, and it seemed the ink wasn't dry, they came up with SPLOST, and said whoops, we made a mistake! We need more money, but don't ask us to be accountable, and everyone felt dupped and dumped on.

AGAIN,

someone stepped forward and spent their own money to run as a write in...

What did you do?

Like a bunch of mindless cattle herded to the slaughter house,
you voted them in again!

Until you do something beside whine, they are going to keep making an ASS out of you! May I remind you that DeCotis is at the mercy of the BOE...he does what they say!

So...who is going to step forward and get a petion going to oust these guys? It isn't hard...you just have to do it!

Untill there is an answer...don't whine...you voted for it, and you got it!

Can you see those 2 on what is it? I'm smarter than a 3rd grader?

If they were asked to add... or plan a budget...the kid would win

hands down!

Where is the PETITION? It is easy folks...put your mouth out there and ask people to sign, instead of being gouged in the pocket for their stupidity!

My answer would be "I'll give my raise back only if Decotis and Co give back their raises."

This issue has made the Fayette County school system a national joke. The entire board needs to be replaced.

Ok yall, it is unfortunate that this situation is upon us. Now everyone has no excuse not to be at the next B.O.E meeting, and the next County Commisioners meeting. Lets pack the place, peacefully of course and let them know where you stand. This is the line in the sand. And the last straw. If we do not come together now and get involved in this matter, and see it through to a satisfactory result, then this county is no better than the rest of them. And we have all seen what has happend in our neighboring counties..GOOD LUCK...See you there...

I spoke to a friend today who is a single mom teaching here. She was in tears over this since they barely make it on her salary and support.

Did you know that elemantary students were stopped from riding the bus to a high school if the mom works there? The only course of action for many now is to pay $50 a week for afterschool.

Sadly this is only the beginning of the pains that we will all be feeling soon. I know so many who have lost jobs in the past couple of months.

We, who are more fortuante, need to find ways to help. I am helping one of our teachers. We need to take care of our own.

And if I am elected...There Will Be Layoffs.

Factoid of the day:
Of 159 counties in Georgia, only one...ONE.... county school system with a student population of under 50,000 employs a fulltime public relations person.

Any guesses which county this might be? Bueller?

Please get rid of that idiot. Good job in advance sniffles, and Happy New Year!!

Don't you think those informative and entertaining videos by our public relations person on channel 24 are worth every penny??

Okay, the teachers who live in Fayette County now have higher property and sales taxes to help the school system. Then, they are told that they would start paying for their benefits. Next, they have all of the meager supply money frozen to buy classroom supplies. So, of course they pay for those out of their pocket. Then, they are told their class sizes will be raised above the state maximums and their paraprofessional help will be cut among many other "cost-cutting measures". Sure....I know they will all vote to give back their pathetic pay raises....I understand times are tough-but this is getting ridiculous. Someone needs to learn to manage the money because it seems like no amount of money is ever enough!!!!!!!!

The Atlanta media has sparked on their recommendation, and it made the Drudge Report this AM! Now, the world will get a glimpse into Fayette County that we could have probably done without! Their action may not serve as a magnet for new home buyers (and ultimate taxpayers)!! What would raises given to all -- EXCEPT TEACHERS -- yield -- including the entire superintendent's office and members of the BOE?

How about the Fayette County board members work for free, in good faith for our county. They don't really need the money I am sure, so they could donate their time. They want to scale the schools down to nothing. Has anyone read the proposed way to save $? It is posted in a pdf file on the FCBOE web site. They have really out done themselves with ways to ruin our schools. Maybe the kids should stay at home and we all have a virtual school by using computers!

I hope the teachers vote to keep their raise. That's just pitiful.

Why do we pay for Superint and an Asst Super? Is that necessary? Add up both of their salaries, and I'm sure that one gone would save enough to save the teachers pay. FCBOE you should be ashamed for your hideous deeds!

Idiots are in charge. Trim the waste and dead-wood at the administrative level and leave the teachers alone. This is insanity!

I went through third through sixth grade with one teacher in one big room! Don't remember the quantity of us but it had to be 50-60 students.

It is a matter of planning and discipline.

We of course only covered the necessary subjects. We took no tests nor studied for any tests! One doesn't learn that way. Nor by teachers who are poor and hard to undersdtand!

Once the desk set is cleared out, then teachers can be reduced up to half if planned that way.
Taxpayers will only stand for so much in bad times.

Also, 45-65 thousand is a bundle of money, along with pensions, insurance and benefits in hard times.
A quarter million for Superintendents, plus the helpers, can wait for better times.

Those were the days when kids had discipline and came to school to learn. The teachers weren't bogged down with tons of paperwork/ documentation and meaningless test scores. I long for the days of the one room schoolhouse!
