Obama should tone down inaugurationTue, 12/30/2008 - 3:34pm

The media predicts that 2 million to 4 million people, drunk on the adoration of the “new messiah,” will descend on Washington, D.C., for the presidential inauguration-anointing of Barack Obama. I can’t believe that Homeland Security would allow such an assemblage, especially in the nation’s capitol. What an opportunity for terrorists. The fiasco will cost millions and millions of dollars for increased security and other one-time costs, and result in a great deal of damage to landmarks, grounds and personal property. D.C. will be paralyzed for a week because of the debacle. For the the sake of security and the economy, Obama would have been wise to limit the inauguration to a brief, simple ceremony. But he’s too impressed with himself to do that. The nation has hundreds of thousands of people without jobs, and some are running out of food, it is said. All that time and money wasted; the tremendous security risks; the hundreds of thousands of lost time on the collective jobs of the masses — for the sake of ego recognition. It’s ironic that every time I use the words Barack and Obama, my word processor throws up a red flag. J.C. Lovett Fayetteville, Ga. login to post comments |
