A man recently paroled from prison who robbed a woman of her car at knifepoint outside Partner’s Pizza in Peachtree City Monday night was apprehended last night in Houston County, Ala., police said.

Ronald Dale Smith, 35, was arrested after Houston sheriff’s deputies noticed the stolen car and attempted to pull it over, police said. Smith led them on a pursuit and eventually fled the vehicle as he attempted to break into a residence, police said.

Smith is being held at the Houston County Jail on several charges including the armed robbery charge from Monday’s incident, police said.

Smith approached the victim just after 8 p.m. Monday as she was getting out of her car near Partner’s Pizza, police said.
Smith approached the woman as she got out of her car, first demanding her car keys, police said. After she hesitated, Smith displayed a knife and again demanded the keys, police said.

Smith took the car and also the victim’s purse and left the area, police said. The victim was unhurt.

Prior to the incident Smith had been with a friend inside the Y-Knot sports bar just a few doors down from Partner’s, police said.

Police said Smith was recently paroled from Autry State Prison for fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer and homicide by vehicle; those charges were prosecuted in Carroll County.

Autry State Prison is located south of Albany, Ga.

All to many times these days we see ex cons, and violent offenders released out on to our streets as witnessed in this case, even though the economy is in the sewer and people are down and out, this does not justify turning to a life of crime to make ends meet. To even suggest this is a cop out. Throughout the years our justice system has evolved to cut criminals a deal if they plead quilty with terms. aka cop a plea. This method of coviction rewards criminals with reduced time for cooperating with the D.A. so its no wonder after a year or two theyre back out on the street. to me it does not matter how much you cooperated with officials after the fact. if you do the crime then you ought to do the time end of story. Until people demand this of theyre elected officials. it will only get worse...GOD BLESS..

more of this happening as the economy continues its downward spiral. It's tough enough for people who have been laid off from past employment to find work, just be an ex-con coming out on parole. It's easier for them to commit a new crime and return to prison than to try and make a living out here. I do not profess to make excuses for them, I just understand the reality.

Now that dude gets to spend Christmas in the gray bar hotel with his old buds and the general populace has one less dangerous idiot on the loose.

GREAT!! Maybe he can be placed in a more 'suitable' prison this go around!! At some point, the rights of the innocent citizens have to be given at least equal weight!! This guy could become a poster child for the old chain gang -- at least they made a contribution to the citizens they abused!!

You guys seem to know this fellow and what he deserves--a better jail or worse, shot on the spot.

Maybe all he needs is a fair trial, and then 90 days on a mental facility---somewhat like the ones that the lady who drowned five of her own kids, and the one who shot her preacher husband in the back with a shotgun--I think she got 60 days for that.
Then there is the gal who drove her car into the lake with her kids strapped in.........

This guy sure is a dumb scumball. He tried to run from cops again? How has that worked for this jerk so far? So much for Darwin and his little theory. It's a shame they caught him alive.

A quick yahoo search on this guy had him fleeing / escaping an inmate work detail in south Georgia only two years ago. Then being arrested in Henry County in a stolen car, what the he&& was this scumbag doing out already?

I've heard the statistic that 80% of all violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders on early release or parole. Even if incorrect I would be that those numbers can't be that far off.

Why was the White Trash let out on our streets? Can you see this piece of human debris becoming our next Brian Nichols?
