"using a license plate to conceal a vehicle’s identity"?

"obstructing a person making an emergency phone call"?

Some interesting arrests this week!

Fayetteville PD seems to have been kept busy with all the shoplifting arrests.

Just curious. What constitutes violating probation? Seems that half the arrests from all jurisdictions is for that offense. How do they find them doing whatever it is they do?

Here's what most offenders don't understand about probation:

Probation is a prison sentence; the difference is that the offender gets to serve his sentence in the community. Just because the offender doesn't see bars, wear a prison uniform and eat bad food, doesn't mean that they aren't restricted. They can't spend time in places where alcohol is served. They cannot break any law. They can't be around illegal drugs. They have to get and keep a job. They have to report as directed to their probation officer. They have to keep up with their child support payments. They cannot get a traffic ticket. They have to pay their fines on time. They cannot possess a firearm. In short, a probationer must walk a VERY narrow path.

And here's where they tend to get stung. The probationer gets in a car with a "friend". The friend may or may not know that they're on probation. The friend may have a stolen gun in the car or drugs. If the friend runs a stop sign and gets pulled over, what are the chances that the "friend" is going to admit that the gun or the drugs were his? ZERO. And the probationer's nasty surprise is that it is MUCH easier for a judge (as in, no jury trial) to revoke his probation than to be found guilty of possession of the drugs or the weapon beyond a reasonable doubt after a trial by a jury of his peers.

People who choose probation need to really commit to walking a straight line in every thing they do, every place they go and every person with whom they associate. Probation sounds much easier than it is and the longer the probation sentence, the longer the probationer has to remember not to break any of the rules.

I imagined it must be something very easy to do since there are so many re-arrested. Either that or there's a bunch of slow-witted getting arrested and put on probation.

Sometimes a probation violation can be as simple as not checking in with your probation officer or paying the fees that go with probation. It does not necessarily mean they committed another crime.
