Fayette commission shows season’s spiritTue, 12/23/2008 - 4:19pm

With all of the hot topics going before the commissioners such as the defined pension plan and the west bypass, many have missed a great gift given to our community. Our commissioners have put into action the wonderful scripture, “as you do unto the least of these my brethren you do unto me,” by agreeing to the leasing of property for $1 a year for a new counseling center that serves the most severely mentally ill in our county. The primary consumers receiving services at Fayette Counseling Center are those who are unable to advocate for themselves, and one must make sure care is given on their behalf. In fact, the love and care shown by our commissioners just does not stop there. Square Foot Ministries has agreed to build the building and private donors across our county are stepping forth to make sure the dream happens. And, on Feb. 14, the whole community will be invited to take part in the build by gathering on the Fayette Lowe’s parking lot to erect the walls. It is very fitting that this event should happen on a day when we celebrate the power of love. We should all feel blessed that we live in a community that has the power to look beyond politics and beyond the dollar to create a lasting legacy for all of God’s children. If you would like to take part in this awe-inspiring community collaboration, go to legacybuild08.com where you will find the words, “What you leave behind is not engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” Connie Thomas Biemiller Fayette County, Ga. login to post comments |
