Fayette commission shows season’s spirit

With all of the hot topics going before the commissioners such as the defined pension plan and the west bypass, many have missed a great gift given to our community.

Our commissioners have put into action the wonderful scripture, “as you do unto the least of these my brethren you do unto me,” by agreeing to the leasing of property for $1 a year for a new counseling center that serves the most severely mentally ill in our county.

The primary consumers receiving services at Fayette Counseling Center are those who are unable to advocate for themselves, and one must make sure care is given on their behalf.

In fact, the love and care shown by our commissioners just does not stop there. Square Foot Ministries has agreed to build the building and private donors across our county are stepping forth to make sure the dream happens.

And, on Feb. 14, the whole community will be invited to take part in the build by gathering on the Fayette Lowe’s parking lot to erect the walls.

It is very fitting that this event should happen on a day when we celebrate the power of love.

We should all feel blessed that we live in a community that has the power to look beyond politics and beyond the dollar to create a lasting legacy for all of God’s children.

If you would like to take part in this awe-inspiring community collaboration, go to legacybuild08.com where you will find the words, “What you leave behind is not engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”

Actually, mapleleaf, it is not the taxpayers that are funding this
wonderful community resource. The county is only providing the land (that has set vacant for many years)not the actual building. Funding for this building
comes from the gracious efforts of Square Foot Ministries' volunteers,
numerous fundraisers, prayer & special people putting in their personal
time to make sure that his great resource is not lost. Fayette
Counseling Center is a non-profit organization contracted by the State
of Georgia. They are a vital resource for those dealing with Mental
Health & Substance Abuse issues. They continuously work on a "shoe
string" budget but are blessed to be able to keep their doors open.
Without them, the emergency rooms & jails would be over-crowded costing
tax-payers in this county even more money each year. This community
resource continues to touch & save lives, not drain your bank account.

The county commissioners may have provided the vote, but it is really the county's taxpayers who generously are providing this facility. They're the ones who should be thanked.

You're welcome!
