Network upgrade offers ‘smart’ phone users faster Internet access

ATLANTA, Ga., Dec. 22, 2008 — AT&T Mobility announced Monday the expansion of the third-generation (3G) broadband network in Peachtree City.

With the addition of 3G technology to seven cell sites in the Peachtree City area, the company has further expanded its mobile broadband network, giving customers who live and travel through the main corridors of Atlanta south to Peachtree City more options in how, when and where they can access the Internet, use email or view a variety of entertainment services.

The enhanced cell sites are part of AT&T Mobility’s ongoing expansion of its 3G network, the nation’s fastest 3G network, according to recent data compiled by leading independent wireless research firms.

The company’s 3G network increased an additional 55 square miles with these enhancements. As a result, 3G wireless coverage has expanded from metro Atlanta down to Peachtree City, providing connecting coverage northeast to Ga. Highway 54; to Fayetteville; and north to Tyrone.

In June, the company increased its metro Atlanta 3G wireless network by approximately 140 square miles, expanding its wireless broadband service south into Peachtree City; to Palmetto; along I-75 near Newnan; and east along Ga. Highway 16 to Sharpsburg.

“At AT&T Mobility, our mission is to connect people where they live and work and do it better than anyone else,” said Sylvia Anderson, president, AT&T Georgia. “The expansion of 3G service in Peachtree City is another great example of our commitment to deliver the most advanced communications capabilities to our customers in the community. These network enhancements are the result of AT&T Mobility’s continued investment in expanding wireless coverage across Georgia.”

The company’s 3G network opens the door to a new era of advanced mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content, such as AT&T Video Share, a first-of-its-kind technology that allows users to share live video during a wireless call. This rapidly expanding network, combined with an ever-expanding lineup of 3G devices, provides customers the best in mobile communications.

“Our goal is to ensure that AT&T Mobility customers have the very best wireless experience possible — which means unmatched coverage and quality of service,” said Keith Holmes, vice president and general manager for AT&T’s Georgia Mobility and Consumer markets. “These 3G enhancements give local wireless customers strengthened coverage as well as critical connecting coverage for those that travel to and from Peachtree City.”

The company’s 3G network delivers LaptopConnect users typical downlink speeds ranging between 700 kilobits per second (Kbps) and 1.7 megabits per second (Mbps), and faster uplink speeds ranging between 500 Kbps and 1.2 Mbps. The faster uplink speeds allow users to quickly send large files, taking full advantage of the latest Internet and business applications.

AT&T Mobility’s 3G network is now available in 335 U.S. major metropolitan areas, including Atlanta, Savannah, Columbus, Gainesville, Dalton, McDonough and Rome. The company will deliver 3G service to nearly 350 leading U.S. metro areas by the end of 2008.

“Continued investment in the latest wireless technology is good for business and consumers in Peachtree City and throughout Fayette County,” said Mayor Harold Logsdon of Peachtree City. “It will not only keep residents connected but will also help economic development efforts by offering businesses the technology and services that rival those found in our state’s biggest cities.”

The company’s wireless network is built on the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standard — the most open and widely used technology in the world. AT&T Mobility devices work in more than 200 countries and regions.

Nice regurgitation of an AT&T press release...word for word even. Did you get a free iPhone for publishing this? Next time send them to the ad sales department...you need the revenue.
