Tyrone planning OKs day care centerFri, 12/19/2008 - 3:41pm

The economy may be slumping, but apparently not in terms of child care needs in the Tyrone area. That was the point Thursday as Planning Commission members voted unanimously on a site plan to build Discovery Point Day Care on Carriage Oaks Drive behind CVS Pharmacy. The 1.78-acre site will be home to a 10,000 square-foot day care center with a capacity of up to 240 children, if approved for that number by the state, Discovery Point representative Gene Eisenberg told commissioners. The center would likely have more than 150 children on-site at any given time, Eisenberg said. Located immediately west of the pharmacy, auto parts store and car wash, and just east of Southhampton subdivision, Eisenberg said the day care center would operate Mondays through Fridays from 6:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. He said the business would employ a total of 30 staff working across two shifts. The facility will be all brick with a 6-foot chain link fence surrounding the playground. Commissioners approved the site plan with four minor revisions and the understanding that the color of the brick would match the surrounding buildings. login to post comments |
