A Christmas Message

Cyclist's picture

Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ, the Lord, the newborn King.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.

Yes, Glory to God in the highest!!!

Have a very Merry Christmas and please be safe during your travels to family and loved ones.

May you all have a Merry Christmas, and if you don't get what you want, may you get what you need. Tug and Jane, you two are something special and I will forever be in your debt, I love you both. Cy, you are one of the perks of being a band dad, it was a good day when I met you. Hack, for a bed wetting Air Force puke, you're all right and I look forward to crushing you in golf. To the rest of my friends here on the "C".... Merry Christmas.

This unit wants to wish all of The Citizen bloggers and guests a merry Christmas and an auspicious New Year. Actually, I am wishing for the true Christmas spirit to be extended to encompass the whole year: Peace on Earth and Goodwill towards our fellow humans.

To all of The Citizen's bright, occasionally bombastic and rarely boring bloggers, Have a Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the reminder of what this season is all about for us. The message can get lost and covered up in all the "bah humbug!" news these days. Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas and New Year!

Merry Christmas to you, and all (even you $nitbonkdoll) of my fellow bloggers. If any of you don't celebrate Christmas, then have a safe and happy universal, nondescript, winter holiday.

"If any of you don't celebrate Christmas, then have a safe and happy universal, nondescript, winter holiday."

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you too.

It's not really "nondescript" however. We really enjoy this time of year, celebrating "Christmas" and the Solstice usually by having a bonfire on the solstice evening...the kids roast marshmallows and the spouse brings out the telescope and we look at the stars, constellations and planets. We'll actually be in the GA mountains during this year's solstice (12/21) at a "Peace on Earth" and Solstice Celebration, celebrating with several other heathens and pagans Smiling
At home, our Christmas tree, historically a pagan symbol (TREE LINK) was put up and decorated soon after Thanksgiving and next week we'll be cooking holiday treats. The house will be filled with the smell of baked cookies and homemade breads, and the sounds of Christmas carols and new age music ( WINDHAM HILL LINK) will be playing. We love this time of year, even without an emphasis on Jesus or the Christian religion. What we do emphasize is the time of rebirth of our earth from darkness (winter) to light (spring), a new beginning, and love for all humankind.

Like the teacher Jesus, and other great people who walked this earth who symbolize love and compassion for all, we try and teach our children to emulate them and practice humility, love and kindness towards all.

For some who feel the need to lash out at anyone for their beliefs during the holidays, here are some wackjobs to ridicule. These people are Christians too and believe that Christmas, like some people, should only be about the baby Jesus, who according to several passages in the Bible, was not even born in December*:

CHRISTIAN NUTJOBS

* When was Jesus born?

* Born on December 25? No...

"Was Jesus born on December 25? There is no evidence for this date. So then, who decided that Jesus' birth would be celebrated on that date? The early Christian church did not celebrate Jesus' birth. It wasn't until A.D. 440 that the church officially proclaimed December 25 as the birth of Christ. This was not based on any religious evidence but on a pagan feast. Saturnalia was a tradition inherited by the Roman pagans from an earlier Babylonian priesthood. December 25 was used as a celebration of the birthday of the sun god. It was observed near the winter solstice.

The apostles in the Bible predicted that some Christians would adopt pagan beliefs to enable them to make their religion more palatable to the pagans around them. Therefore, some scholars think the church chose the date of this pagan celebration to interest them in Christianity. The pagans were already used to celebrating on this date.

The Bible itself tells us that December 25 is an unlikely date for His birth."

Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem to be counted in the census which Augustus commanded be held in August.

I'm really glad Christmas isn't celebrated in August.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Keep that stuff up Jeff and you will have them onto you like they are me for confusing the issue!

What year do you think it is? 4708 is coming up for most Orientals, but even that has been altered a few times. The number is not important just that they celebrate the Moon.

Isn't it really about 7000, or maybe even 3 billion?

Is that I and all of my fellow Christians are right!

Merry Christmas!

Submitted by Nitpickers on Fri, 12/19/2008 - 5:58pm.

You mention that Christmas is in August, then tell us that Christians are right with December 25th!

I'm like the Orientals when it comes to dates about when we occurred--not too important--but religion is another matter for most!

Anyway, the American Indians got it right; "So many moons" is pretty accurate, isn't it?

The sun doesn't even obey 365 days that we dreamed up, need an extra day +-once in a while in February. About as confusing as changing the clock twice a year!

I hate changing those 43 gadgets, wrist watches and car clocks! I can't afford Cartier gadgets.

Tell me what you meant by "fellow Christians?" You mean that I could be wrong?

Celebrating Christmas. It's the event not the date that is important.

When we lived out west, we would attend this celebration every year:

(CHRISTMAS MARKET)

and the celebration in Dahlonega on Sunday should be fun and festive too, but we'll be missing the snow:

(PEACE CELEBRATION)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours and to the rest of the fine bloggers in our special community here...Peace on Earth!

The Christmas Market on your link reminds me of the Christkindlsmarkt that we use to go to when my Dad was stationed in Germany. Brings back some wonderful Christmas memories!!

You know I like to hear the truth, I'm glad to see someone who is not afraid to speak it.

I just think its funny that a church would basically use lies to attract worshipers to a God who cannot lie.

Just a thought.
