New Fayette gov't watchdog group unveils plans

Fayette County’s newest non-profit, Fayette Citizens for Open Government (FAYcog), held its first press conference Thursday morning. The group used the occasion to announce its intention to serve as a watchdog on behalf of citizens, to monitor local government and inform county residents of ongoing issues of importance.

FAYcog members said they will monitor the actions of several elected bodies throughout the county and advocate for greater transparency and accountability by requesting that governments televise meetings and/or include them on their respective websites. But the group’s initial focus is on Fayette County Commission.

FAYcog Co-chairman James Wingo said representatives will attend the county commission meeting later today, noting the group’s opposition to the proposal to implement a defined benefits plan for county employees.

Though not opposed to employees having a benefits plan, Wingo said the current proposal is an example of poor communication with the people of Fayette County whose taxes will fund that plan.

“They just put the information on the website last week,” Wingo said. “But they have had the information since October 2007.”

Co-chairman Harold Bost said the group has approximately 40 active members along with approximately 40 others that maintain some level of active participation.

Bost, Wingo, Dunn, Wells, Pheifer, and ilk are the ones we need to be protected from. We need to be protected from the criminals and the politicians.......

ooooopppppsssss......did I just put criminals and politicians in 2 different categories?? Wow, long day at work....

How much more damage are you going to do? How many more cluster homes and apartments are you going to let in? How many more empty strip malls will you allow to be built? I have read somewhere that Fayette is way overbuilt with retail space per citizen. No wonder buisnesses are failing, we don't have enough people to support the ugly strip malls. What are your plans for the county after people take off once again for safer grounds?

The sheriff's dept. is doing a great job of getting the bad guys off of the street.

How will you get our DA and our judges to hand out the maximum sentence everytime, like they used to, so that criminals would be afraid to come to Fayette County? How can get our county back without a tough DA?

If Greg Dunn and Linda Wells had never left office, this group would not exist. Behind the facade of a citizen's group, this group is designed to be a mouthpiece of those who have lost in their previous political races.

It is designed to only criticize the current commission. Harold Bost was active during the last election cycle, and I ask any of you to find any complimentary comments of the commission!! You will find that Peter Pfiefer was the lone voice on the commission that stood for the positions that FAYcog supports. Now that Peter is gone, they can turn their attention to trashing the current 5 members.

Fayette County Citizens, DO NOT BE FOOLED by this group. Harold Bost has an agenda, and it does not have the taxpayers of Fayette County at heart.

No one is fooled by this group of "tards"....thats why we voted some of them out, because we don't want clayton county in.

Is FAYcog "new" or just recently revealed to the county citizens? Somehow I missed any information regarding the groups formation. It looks like FAYcog has been in the planning stages for a while as it boasts 40 "active" members and 40 other less active members. Maybe after they finish with the County Commission, they can move on to the school board....not sure who needs it worse.
Is Mr. James Wingo related to our tax commissioner?

When Harold Bost was in office there should have been a Facog. He wasted
Lots of taxpayer’s money and making the county have a special election because
He was not transparent. And Wingo, the commission just did not put out the
Information two weeks ago. That just show’s how stupid you and your group are.
You want to put the meetings on TV who is going to pay for that. You will be
The first to say it costs too much and the taxpayers should not pay for it.
Go to more commission meetings and get a clue. And I bet you Greg Dunn is right
Behind you.
